ERROR! Insert original DVD

jpc13

Landlubber
Here's the problem - this IS the original DVD that came with the game. Anyone else having this problem, and/or know if it's just my game disc that's broken?

I've tried in both of my DVD rom drives after changing the registry entry which points to the CD drive. The install went fine, the autorun comes up, when it starts it takes about 1 minute and then tells me to insert the original disc.

I need my pirates! Help. Please?

Manual misprint -

Wrong disc declared as Play disc
The game manual is incorrect; the Play Disc for the CD version of the game is actually Disc 2, and this is the disc you need in the drive to start the game. You may either Cancel this error, insert Disc 2, and start the game normally, or you may eject Disc 1, replace it with Disc 2, wait for it to spin up, and click the Retry button.

Most likely the problem is with your DVD drives not being able to read the safedisk or securom that Atari uses on thier games. It will let you do anything and everything with the DVD but play the game. You can check the OEM website for your DVD drive and see if they have a BIOS update for it. I've seen some help those in the past.

What's this 2 CD stuff. I only got 1 `DVD-ROM` in the limited edition that I have <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I had trouble with the DVD version, so I updated the DLA on my machine with a file on HP's website. (I have a hp `dvd-writer`) After that I had no problems. Apparantly Windows SP2 overwrites or something in order to use the cd burning features of Windows Media Player. Not sure if I am 100% correct on that, but thats what I got from the info I found.

DLA update? further details pls. Same problem with LE DVD version. God this is frustrating.

or better yet, actually email atari support.

They'll send you an official `no-dvd` patch which solves the problem. I got mine today. Interestingly enough securom will also send you the same patch if you ask them...

The trick is, what happens when firaxis patches the game? Will we have to get another `no-dvd` patch for that version..... The world wonders.

Have fun on the high seas

The website for Atari Support is listed in your manual; for the US it is http://www.atarisupport.com/ - go through the site and you should be able to find either answers to your support questions, or they will send you to an online form that you can use to get (hopefully) your problems with the game solved.

I would post a direct link to that page but it is platform specific - depending upon the version of your OS...
