Everyone Hates Me! (Spoiler Inside)

I've just defeated the pirate king, and I'm wondering what to do next. One problem is that everyone hates me. I can't even sneak into towns, I just go straight into combat mode and everyone flees or attacks. Can't enter the tavern and hire people, can't get missions... nothing.

Is this supposed to happen?

If I'm this famous as the Dread Pirate Overlord, such that every tavern wench knows my face, why isn't there a multinational fleet parked outside Isla Mona lobbing cannonballs on my house?

Why is there a Pirate King anyway? Did I stumble into a Gilbert and Sullivan game? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

If you wan't to repair your reputation with the nations, you could always go to one man in the tavern of the pirate island and ask for his services.
It will cost a lil bit of money but it works as the nations leave you alone after 3 days or so if you accept to pay the man.
The man is near the wall on the right side of the balcony of the tavern.

Well, it didn't work. I paid off the guy in the pirate tavern, and three days later my status improved to "Rascal," but still if I go to town I'm sent straight into combat mode and everyone attacks me.

Is it supposed to work this way, that after defeating the pirate king you can't have any interaction with any other town?
