Need Help f2 screen freezes

Ahoy,

Playing the November upgrade in Free Play, I am encountering frequent freezing of the F2 screen. The screen comes up and none of the menus will open. Also less frequently it will be impossible to move items into or out of play inventory.

Any help appreciate.

The next time it happens, please upload "compile.log", "system.log", and "error.log" if it exists.

Is that from right after a screen freeze? Or did the screen freeze, you quit the game, then started again and then uploaded the files? According to "compile.log", all you did was start the game, appeared in a jungle on Saint Martin, then quit.

Could you upload a saved game?

The game froze yesterday. I did load the save game today. I will send that save.

Odd. The whole F2 interface is indeed not working in that save - and looking at a couple of older saves I have in the "FreePlay" folder, it seems you've had this trouble before.

Have you changed any settings in "InternalSettings.h" or in the "Options" menu? I know you've changed at least one because Sweden is not in the game unless you change the "Options" setting to allow it.

Thank you for looking into this. When I install an upgrade it restores the internal settings to default so I make several changes in those settings. It sometimes appears to reset some but not all options. To be clear I am able to start a new and play a few rounds with saves and the F2 screen freezes. will go check the settings and options. Any suggestions about specific settings to look at? I am thinking o reinstalling the upgrade.

"InternalSettings.h" will be overwritten because there is a version of it in the update. This is necessary because the update version contains several variables not present in the January 2022 installer - without those, the game will crash right away.

Don't just reinstall the update. Reinstall from scratch, starting with the original CD's, then the January 2022 installer, then the update.

And I just got a runtime error

That's odd. It's complaining about "seadogs.c", specifically a missing ")" on line 2042, which is part of the code which handles fire drill if you press "C" when your ship is on fire. That file hasn't changed since June, and if it had a mistake like that, the game would have crashed as soon as it started. This seems another reason to reinstall the whole game, not just the update.

Knock on wood, reinstalling the update appears to have fixed everything.
