Fencing Academy Open for Business

Welcome to the Fencing Academy.

This Academy consists of 14 game saves each with a Beautiful Daughter’s Jealous Suitor waiting to duel with you. In case you do not know, he is the most highly skilled opponent you will find anywhere in Pirates!.

As an added bonus, there is a Criminal waiting for you in the Tavern (ask the Barkeeper) and the Captain of the Guard may be waiting as well.

In all of the saves of this Academy, the first part of the name tells you the difficulty level.

In the first 5 saves you have none of the fencing gear that makes you faster and you have Wit and Charm as your skill, in other words, you have nothing to speed you up!

Apprentice_noskill_nogear
Journeyman_noskill_nogear
Adventurer_noskill_nogear
Rogue_noskill_nogear
Swashbuckler_noskill_nogear

In the next three saves you have all the extras you could possibly imagine, but you still only have Wit and Charm.

Adventurer_allgear
Rogue_allgear
Swashbuckler_allgear

In the next three saves you have Skill in Fencing, but none of the fencing gear.

Adventurer_nogear_withskill
Rogue_nogear_withskill
Swashbuckler_nogear_withskill

The final three saves you have all the gear and you have Skill in Fencing. This is the fastest you will ever get.

Adventurer_allgear_skill
Rogue_allgear_skill
Swashbuckler_allgear_skill

In Windows XP, you simply double click on the game save you want to practice with and Pirates will `start-up`. This works best if Pirates is not already running.

If this does not work for you, rename the save you want to practice with to Slot15 and load it normally.

The Named Pirates never gave me any trouble.
Those times when I waited too long to get married the Suitor was always very tough, chasing down the pirates afterwards was trivial by comparison.

Outta curiousity de ye start wid fence'n skill at de start O'de game,I don't,I'd always be start'n wid Navigator skill,I found it made very little diffrence in swordplay not start'n wid fence'n skill. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Never really knew for certain.
Now we have an easy mechonism to test this out with.

Try playing the various versions to see how you do. Just remember to play the same version several times. The opponent skill is still modified by a random number! (As shown by experience.)

You can check if your swordfighting style would be improved if you take Skill in Fencing or if all you need is the gear!
