File Handling

This has probably been asked & answered a thousand times & I'm probably making an idiot of myself, but I'm going cross eyed searching for what I want. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":huh" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />
What programs do I need to deal with POTC files (reskinning & converting 3D Canvas files. Etc.) & where can I get them?
I'm set up for a Train Simulator (MSTS) ATM but I thought it's about time I stopped being just a "User Of Everyone Else's Work" in POTC. Perhaps in time for Akella's AOP.
Thanks,
Dusty.

Don't know if it's been asked and answered a thousand times, but it's at least been answered once, so instead of trying to answer you myself (and failing at doing that well) I'll just redirect you <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/ftopic4972.php" target="_blank">here</a>, if you don't mind. Hope that helps you. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

3D Canvas--can't say I've heard of it.
What file types can it export?
If you can get it into VRML (*.wrl), or into a format that something _else_ can convert to wrl, you can use Inez's tool to convert wrl to GM.

Nathan, Amabilis 3D Canvas is available from the Amabilis website for free.
<a href="http://www.amabilis.com/" target="_blank">http://www.amabilis.com/</a>
I've heard it's on a par with Gmax. I've upgraded to 3D Canvas Pro. It can do a lot more but isn't free. I think it was around the $70:00 US mark which is about as much as I can afford for a computer program. I'm still learning how to use it properly but there doesn't seem to be much it can't do. Including animating the valve gear on steam locomotives. (Perhaps useful for working the oars on the Galleons of another thread? or flapping sails?)
The person to ask would be Paul Gausden ("Decapod"). He's writen several `plug-ins` for 3DC & probably knows it better than anyone else. His website (trains) is <a href="http://www31.brinkster.com/decapod/" target="_blank">http://www31.brinkster.com/decapod/</a>
It's definitly worth checking out just to see some of its capabilities.

Lady Cat, my missus found the quote & I've been living it so long now I thought I might as well use it. She says I fell over the line yours referes to years ago. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Cheers, Dusty.

That's GREAT! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

I'm going to look into that program, sounds good. Thanks for the tip, Dusty! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
