First attempts in skinning

The part of the ensign with the british flag sometimes appears malformed, a bit strange, i'll try to see if i can do something and if i can't i'll release it as it is.

*edit i tried to change the texture, it still seems strange, i think the problem comes from the model of the ensign himself. Look at its left side.

I think it is like this. Upper part of the sail is stretched to fit sail.
but if you make a flag that has diagonal left edge to fit sail, then
flags that are on masthead etc will not be good. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huhh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:k" border="0" alt="huhh.gif" />

ps If you like to change flag geometry read my mini tutorial, i think it is in potc modding tread.
EDIT one solution is to make long flag so that small flag on upper left corner is not in stretched part <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
 
Since yesterday i did'nt have the net, because it hardly snows at mine and that's bad for telephone lines, so i had time to work, i'll upload it as soon as i can, i hope my connection will stabilise quickly.

I also made improvements on the deck skin (i'll invite you to download the fixed version that will replace the first one)

I also made a big ensigns pack, with individual flags, and flag pack that i think they will please some of you, some of them contains the actual white ensign, but i'll make an update if i can make it better.

i'll invite you to RE-DOWNLOAD RED ENSIGN if you did (anyway it is now in the flag pack) because i made an IMPORTANT BUGFIX on it

But, by this way, does it mean i would have to edit all the flags on all the ships? O_________o'
 
I kept working tonight and made those reskins, still in black and Yellow to make a War fleet

I slightly reskinned the Battleship3_44 :

I reskinned the Fearless that was white and Pink, (it might go with one of captain Hawk's ships of line but i'm not sure, I didn't test that feature, it would be great with the ensign at the rear) :

And here is my last one, I've now massively reskinned the deck with higher definition textures and I painted the cannons supports in red like on many ships, I hope you'll like it

can you do something about the flat back of the fearless. I think that the fearless is an really ugly ship with the flat back. but i like the cannons and the battle ship. GOOD WORK MATY!!
 
I also skin that the fearles's flat back is quite bad, it could be better, i'll try to see if i can find a texture for the stern to make it better, but i can't assure you it will be quickly, i'll also try to get better competences in skinning before doing that <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
 
Seb, is there any chance you could perhaps make a Pre-18th century red ensign or a pure white ensign for the Royal French navy (the flag with fleur de lise d'or wasn't standard as was pure white)?
The version you have made for these Napoleonic fans came into effect from c.1707 onwards (red ensign), but it would be nice to have a 17th century variant.

The 17th century red ensign is simply red with a george cross in the top left corner:

I've already done a french flag for my self, probably more realistic it would be an occasion to release it

Thanks Seb, the new (old!) British ensign looks perfect (I whitewashed the french flag though to get a contemporary 1690s feel going.).
I love the ship skins btw...the warships look so much better in yellow and black. Pity there's no option for my ugly 70 gun flagship...were it not for it's compliment of cannons I'd probably scuttle the thing.

but i have a suggestion: could you split the upper gunline on the Battleship? because in places its a three decker, others two, so for example near the bow there are guns on the exposed decks, underneath them is another deck, and another underneath that. so why not split that thick yellow line between the upper two gundecks?
could you do that, please?

Just a small note that for people keen to get correct ensigns, the following flag site has some very useful information about what flags were flown when and where, plus the pictures are really easy to resize to replace those in the the flagall.tga.tx file (though I've not seen how they'd work with the BIG flags you guys seem to have found).

This is just the British ensigns page. I found a suggestion that the Spanish 17th century ensign on ships in the Americas isn't just the yellow white and red flag, but rather <a href="http://www.fotw.us/images/e/es~gal.gif" target="_blank">this</a>.

Pity you can't add different flags to different ships so as to have some merchants with say an East India Company ensign or something and thus be different from the military vessels encountered. (or have say occasionally a Royal spanish ship flying the kings arms)
