Frigate Mizzen Mast

Ahoy all.

I was recently playing around with the GM Viewer when I had the idea of switching the mizzen sails of the frigate to that of the corvette by just copying over the existing ones. I haven't tried it yet, but shouldn't it work the same? Just curious.

I changed the models last night and put them in game. The frigate with the "spanker" type sail looks much better in my opinion. I'll try to get up a screenshot later today.

In case no one's noticed, I'm a big fan of Napoleonic `War-era` stuff. As fun as PotC is (with the build, of course), its always bothered me how the ships are so typical 17th century. I got the idea paging through Patrick O'Brian's Navy (great book, I suggest all go out and purchase it), when I saw profiles of frigates from that ear and noticed one major difference; the "spanker" sail trailing from the mizzen. In PotC as we ALL know has the diagonal [insert proper term here] spar on the mizzen. I figured that by changing the model of the spar with that of the Corvette's spanker, the proper result could be achieved. It was, but I'm assuming a screenshot is in order.

Hiya welldone i was annoyed with that too can ye put it up for download so i can av it please and tell me how to replace em as the diagonal mast is annoying. Also cud u perhaps do it for the manowar please? or maybe the other vessels that av the silly diag mast/ PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE! Ill give ya loads of rum hehehehe! lol!
 
I'm lookin' at doing the `Man-o`-War right now. I don't need to put it up to download, because all you need to do is copy a few files. What you need to do is go into your Models folder, find ships, and go to the Corvette folder (either one works). "corvette1_rey_a4.gm" is the file you need. Once you extract the file, copy it into your frigate folder as "frigate1_rey_a4.gm" and voila. A basic solution to a basic problem.
 
The diagonal yard is called a lateen rig. Look at the xebec, galeoth, and tartana to see different versions of the basic design. Common in the Med and very common in the 17th century.

The `fore-and`-aft rigged mizzen course is much more efficient design. Good idea to change it.
 
Oooo ar i think i understand im about to try all my adjusted vessels, the frigate the battleship and the manowar. For the warship and lineship which files do i change? and i cant remember rightly but are there any vessels with forestaysails (jibs) etc if so which folders are they to adjust to give my ship forestaysails???
 
well the frigate worked and so did the manowar havent seen a battleship yet, but however the manowar has a sail that looks like a little flag flying of its aft mast rather than a sail something needs resizing how is this done does anyone know at please?

Amen to that. I love the `Aubrey-Maturin` novels. As for the screenies, I'm still trying to put them up...is there any way I can post them without a URL? (I'm assuming I have to put them on a webpage, which its not really worth...)

Which program do you use to open the gm files too look at them...

Alexander Kent and Dewey Lambdin novels are 1st rate also.
 
Hey all, Im reading the second book right now actually. It is indeed good. I would love to see a ship based more on the books's vessels. Take care!
