Future Modifacations

Darkphoenix

Landlubber
I am having a blast playing Alpha 14.4, and just have been thinking lately about some of the modifacations that could be added in the future, so I figured I would start a thread about what other people would like to see in the game in the future. These are a few of the things I would like to see added to the game:

1. There has been alot of talk in another thread about making the top of the line weapons being given out as special gifts for the most part (and/or extremely rare to find, and not freely sold on the streets of a town), and I am thrilled by this idea. One idea I had that coincides with this one is instead of having gemstones (I would like to see these be of monetary value only) that offer perks and penalties (Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Smoky Quartz, Quartz Crystal etc.) maybe having some of the weapons in the game offering perks and penalties could be an option. I think more variety in weapons would also be a nice addition, I am not sure how hard it would be to code more weapons, and get appropriate art for them would be though.

2. The Poisoned Throwing Knife.....it looks more like an Ivory Handled Stilleto or Dagger...but beyond that.....it can be worn instead of a sidearm. Would other small blades be possible to have that could be used as a combo attack on a foe? A Main Gauche or something similar? These were still used in the time period. I am thinking a whole host of new sidearm weapons could be introduced (Daggers, Stilletos, Main Gauche etc.). Maybe even allow it to be worn in addition to a sidearm, I know I tried the Maltese Abbey at rank 4 just messing around and it could be quite handy there as I got my butt handed to me! LMAO <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

3. A limit on the amount of jewelry (one necklace, a few rings, etc.) that can be worn, and introducing new pieces that offer bonuses to skills or other stuff.

4. I would like to see all items able to be sold at the vendors even if not able to be bought. I occasionally have extra Borgiablades, Grenades, Etherbottles, the combo items for higher hit points, poisoned throwing knives, thief knife....yes even cobblestones and sand bags should be able to be sold (maybe only a few gold each though) etc.

5. Relating to #4, it could be nice to have a quality rating on the Borgiablade so it is possible to guage the point in time that it is about to break.

6. Also brought up in another thread the abbreviations after some of the ships....what do they mean? I am assuming the double m...MM is for MerchantMan?? The CT is maybe Cargo Transport? I have no idea what VML is though......and instead of having a 2 after a few of them maybe an abbreviation to differentiate what IS different about the ship? Also, would anyone else want to see the return of that pathetic craft from the original Sea Dogs called the Pink? LOL

Well....discuss ahoy....and if you have ideas post them....maybe we can offer alternatives or some insight on how they could, may be implemented in a futue design.

1) I think we already have plenty of blades. The only thing that we would need to do is to give each blade more distinct qualities. There's no real point in just adding more blades when the new blades are just "yet another blade"-type blades.

2) A poisoned throwing knife is actually a gun. You can't use it as blade, you can only throw (=fire) them.

3) You can't really "wear" any jewelry. All items in your inventory take effect. Perhaps we can make the items equippable, so that you can choose which items to equip. The problem would be that you can only equip one item of each item type and each item only has one item type.

4) That is easily done: Change itm.skiptrade to itm.skipsell in PROGRAM\ITEMS\initItems.c for these items.

5) Perhaps we can add the borgiablade to the weaponsmod. At the moment it is no part of that mod. It IS possible, but it takes a bit of work.

6) MM = Muddy Monkey, CT = Catalina, they're named after the modders who put them in the game. Not sure what VML stands for, but it's simply a lugger that looks much better than the default one. If a ship type has "2" after it, it just means it has a different colour from the normal one.

I did like to see a bayonet ingame, to equip together with the musket, so you have a kick ass gun, but a rather weak hand to hand combat weapon.

I agree on that part. If there were a limit on the amount of gold you could carry with you, the gems would really have a purpose : they are very valuable and they take very few space & weight. When you would need to, you would change them for money at town - why not in the usurer's office? And for each gem the sell and buy price would be the same here (on the oposite, the street merchants would still try to trick you, that's their job). Currently the only items that are limited are the gunpowder and amunition.

By the way, is there a way to make so that when you need to pay your crew, the shipyard master, or the stores man your amount of money would be the money your carrying + the one you have in the chest in your cabin?
