Good game but having a few problems....

Landlubber
1. Sometimes when in battle, my ship seems to get stuck and won't turn a particular way. Is this a bug?

2. I find it very hard to work out where I'm going. What I thought was a compass turned out to be the wind guage. Is there an easier way to work out your direction other than to look at the map, move, then look at the map again?

3. When you get given acres of land - what does this do other than it being just another stat? Can you build things on your land for example?

4. How can I find out the stats of the ship (turning, top speed etc). I can only guess how good a ship is by its selling price and max tonage it can carry.

5. Dividing up the loot. This seems most unfair. If I make say 10,000 and then divide it up, I might get 500 say, but that should be mine to keep. Instead it becomes part of the next divy up when the crew become unhappy again. Am I missing something?

6. The countries never seem to be unhappy with me for long. I bashed up the dutch for a while, went away and came back and they weren't hostile to me anymore. What gives?

7. Lost sister problem. I have captured the evil Baron Raymondo twice !! and got 2 pieces of the map. I can see the X and know its off cumura but can't find where. Do I need to capture the Baron a 3rd time to get another piece of the map. I don't get this at all?

Great game though, barring the problems mentioned above.

1 - nope - that's wind or you have run aground

2 - sounds like you are using the chase cam. I don't use it as it screws up my navigation. The wind gauge is on the compass. Red arrow is the wind, the rest is standard compass stuff - up = north etc...

3 - Nope - just a stat. Though I think we'd all like to see a graphical rendition of our "sugar plantation"

4 - In the manual there is a pretty good explanation of the ships. Interesting reading as well. Max tonnage means nothing with regards to combat power - a large cargo fluyt - while being 140 tons, is a PIG in the water.

5. It IS yours to keep - it gets added to your personal wealth - check the personal status screen. The higher the level you play on - the bigger your cut of the plunder. The amount that is tossed into the next expedition's coffers are equal to the captain's share from what I can tell. There are plenty of threads about keeping your crew happy. Lots of different ways to do it.

6. It's very much a "NOW" kinda thing. While Curacao may fire on you whenever you get near them, St. Martin may not have gotten the word yet, or is not too threatened by you. Keep pounding them... eventually, they'll put out a bounty on your head. I had a 92,000 gold piece bounty on me by the bloody spanish!

7 - Yep, and you might need to get him a 4th time to complete the map. Sometimes you get lucky and you can figure a map out by a piece or two - sometimes it takes all 4. As you go along, you'll get better about figuring them out with less parts. Though sometimes, you just gotta get all of them to get a clue.

Glad you like it! It's an instant classic in my book!

Certainly. Now get back to sea and make some money ya scalliwag!

What the hell is a scalli and why does it wag? These questions become important to me late at night...
