Help: Installation fails!

The game installs fine it seems but right at the end after it says "publishing product information" (whatever that means) it simply says:

The wizard was interrupted before Sid Meier's Pirates! could be completely installed.

The system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run the installation again.

Click finish to exit the wizard.</b>

I have no idea what to do. I have searched google and found that this error often occurs if the cd is damaged but it looks fine and I tried installing it on my laptop where it mysteriously works (only it's so slow it's a pain to play...). Both systems are XP SP2. My desktop pc is a 2400+/ECS K7S5A/768 mb/gf3ti200. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this? Could it be a directx problem somehow (I have 9.0c)? I ran dxdiag and it found no problems.

Maybe your desktop's drive has a beef with the CD? If your computers are connected you could just share your laptop's CD drive on the network and install the game on your desktop from the laptop's drive.

BTW, does the GF3 support T&L? Else you will run into more problems, I think...

Well they're not connected but I guess they could be... The laptop is at work though so I can't check it out til monday.
