Help me pick a build!

Pirate Fret

Landlubber
Hey pirates. As you can see, I'm new to Pirates Ahoy. I absolutely love pirate games (I always wanted to be a pirate).

Well, having completed PotC (stock version) in about 3 days (I didn't play that much), I want some more. To me, the game is amazing, but short. I'm aware of your amazing build mod.

Okay, my internet doesn't allow me to download the Build 14 Full version, but I've told a friend to do it for me. Unfortunately, he always says he'll do it tonight, but of course, he doesn't do it.

I'm wondering, firstly, what's the difference between Build 14 Full, and Light version? Except that the Light version is 1.4GB lower in size.

And then, how many stuff has been added in Build 14 compared to 13? I see that Build 14 is about 1.2GB higher in size, so is it that much better than 13?

Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the site! :gday

If you're wondering which Build to go for, I'd highly recommend Build 14- there's a HUGE load of improvements on Build 13 in it!
To name a few:
- There are now more storylines besides Nathaniel's standard one, including the speculated story behind Captain Jack Sparrow!
- The sailing at sea has been heavily modified to make it more realistic (with loads of new ship models, too!)
- The game interface has been re-vamped and improved
- The world map now contains more islands, each with real names corresponding to Caribbean colonies of the eras...
- ... and each storyline takes place in a real historical era between the 1500s and 1700s
- AND the music has been improved with more variety added
- AND there are now many more options to play with, to tune the game to your liking with great ease

And MUCH MUCH MORE! The best way to find out is to try it yourself.
Honestly, mate, if you thought the original game was amazing, this will blow you away! :onya

NOTE: Build 14 is still in the beta stage, so it has various bugs still... which are being ironed out all the time. Despite this, it's a VERY playable game!
BTW the latest version of Build 14 is Beta 1 patch 1- I'd recommend the FULL version, as it's probably easier to install than Build 13 followed by Build 14 light.

I see that Build 14 is the best pick, by far, and I'll definitely go with it! I'll have to wait 'till my friend downloads it though, and he is pretty confident of doing it tonight. Oh, well...

1 more question. What's the Build 14 Light version? Thanks in advance! :sail

Oh, sorry, didn't see the edit. Thanks for the clarification!

No problem- happy to help (as is pretty much everyone on this site!) :dance

Oh, and sorry about the late edit- I do that all the time! :facepalm

EDIT: Ah, my mistake- B14 Beta 1 light is installed on top of B14 Alpha 10... either way it's easier to just install Beta 1 Full.

The Light version is meant SOLELY for people who already had Build 14 Alpha 10 installed.
Since you don't have any Build version yet, it's Build 14 Beta 1 Full that you need.
You can download Build 13 yourself and once your friend gets Build 14 Beta 1 for you, you can upgrade.
New game required, but at least you'd have had some fun with Build 13 in the meantime.

Thanks for the replies. :dance

I'll wait 'till my friend downloads Build 14 (maybe he did, didn't ask him yet). That way, I'll enjoy it more than playing Build 13 first. I do that with food, too! I have breakfast, and don't eat anything before lunch. So, when lunch is made, I'm so hungry I eat half of it. :cheers

Build 14 is a huge difference from Build 13, really. :cheeky

You live in Split? Nice! I've been in port there a couple of times with the Zuiderdam. :yes

You've been in Split? Awesome! :dance

What's it like being a sailor (if that's what you are)?
And, congratulations on 25K posts. :cheers

What it says under my avatar is actually my real-life rank and not my forum one. :cheeky
I'm a Fourth Officer assigned to the Maasdam, though at the moment on leave.
As navigational officer, I do bridge watchkeeping (generally at night) and checking/maintenance of safety/lifesaving equipment.
It can be tiresome with 10 hours of work each day, 7 days a week, 4 months at a time,
but it is what I always wanted and it can be a lot of fun, so I'm not complaining. :wp

It's awesome to do a job you love.

My future job will be a bit less exciting than yours, a programmer. But yeah, that's what I want! Although, I think I'd drop that career for being a guitarist in a great band at any time. Living in Croatia, that won't happen, though. :nk

Programming can be pretty cool, as proven by our continued modding right here. Nothing wrong with that. :doff

Although I never learned any proper programming, I did end up doing some professionally last year.
My knowledge from modding PotC really helped there. Since I was actually programming something useful then,
it was quite a lot of fun. Personally I think anything can be fun if you find it worthwhile. :yes
