Help Request Re: POTC Mod v13

I have recently installed the v13 Build Mod of POTC, and cannot proceed past the first few seconds of gameplay.

Every time (and I mean EVERY time, sword-fighting tutorial included) I draw my sword, I am attacked by a French infantry unit of dozens of men, who kill me instantly, causing me to wake up in Oxbay's tavern.

Even when the Frenchmen don't spawn, I get a message on the screen alerting me to their presence and the 'battle music' starts and doesn't stop for a good half-minute.

It has occurred to me that this is meant to be, but the fact that it happens during the tutorial tends to lead me to the conclusion that it's not.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Indeed that is not meant to happen. There is indeed a button that triggers a French invasion, but it's not the "draw sword" button. Instead it should be numpad 9. It sounds to me like your controls are messed up, in which case going into the Options menu and resetting them to default should solve the problem. You can reassign the controls to your liking again after that. I see. The way my controls work, numpad 9 *is* draw sword.

I'll have to keep my finger away from they key, then.

Just out of curiosity, why does 9 trigger a French invasion, and is there a way of remapping the key?

You can remap the key in PROGRAM\BuildDefaultControls. Reset your controls to default after that and the change should've taken effect.
The reason for the button is basically "I am bored and want to have a fight"; there's not really much of a purpose, but it's there. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
