Help with Pirates

Love the game....But I need to ask a question about one thing....(Apologies in advance if this is not the right forum to do so.)

The manual says you can keep playing your character for as long as you like. But in my game...after Dividing the Plunder it does not allow me to continue with that character....Why?...heres the situation..

I.m 41 years old in 1681, with failing health. I have married, rescued three family members, and and had just become the Number 1 Pirate. I started the game at apprentice, but continued at journeymen level....

But now when I divide plunder it forces my retirement. Is this a bug?, or a result of completing a game goal by becoming No.1 pirate? or failing health so I can't get new crew? or some other reason.?

I suspect it is to do with becoming No.1 pirate plus failing health. But as i said the manual says failing health should'nt stop you from continuing....and implies you can just keep going with your character regardless.

can anyone assist with this query...as I'm annoyed I can't continue with my character.

Cheers Brip

Moving to SMP forum for more exposure... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Your rank has nothing to do with it, it's just that you've become too old and your health too poor. Try the medicine skill next time you start a game and/or buying the health special items from the traveller in the tavern to extend play time. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Yeah, it shocked me the first time it made me retire, after I had read in the book that it wasn't supposed to. Either the book is wrong, or else they meant you could continue as long as you don't devide the plunder, in which case they should have stated that.

Yep I do believe once you are in failing health, you can continue onwards forever until you divide and plunder. I was 54 when i finally completed everything, and my pirate was so old the fencing was like watching my grandfather negotiate his zimmerframe <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Once in failing health though the next time you divide and plunder your pirate retires away to a peaceful life <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Brig,

on pages `81-82` of the US version of the manual it does state several times that "you may continue to play your pirate as long as you like".

I agree it can be `mis-leading`. The game will FORCE you to retire at a certain point based on your health. I searched the Manual Errata file that came with the game to see if this was changed after the manual was printed. Nothing there. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

So the best thing to do is;

1. Choose the medicine skill at the start
2. Avoid being hit during duels
3. Obtain the Medical Herbs and/or the Incan Mystic Salve (page 114)

Many of the other Special Items listed on pages `113-116` will also aid you in avoiding damage to your character.. Good Luck!
