Hey Ya'll ....couple of questions regarding Build 13

Yeah, that seems to be the case...I guess I could board them because they were hostile with me personally...I tried with a spanish lugger and it wouldn't allow it......on a seperate note though.....I had an interesting situation arise when England was at war with france......thier (france) ship's started attacking me at an english port and the fort didn't lift a finger to help.....it started right outside the harbor and when it finished we were in the harbor by the town. I was getting my butt handed to me until I managed to board and capture a brig, then from there a MM Frigate...after that the Shynava and Fleut lost thier nerve. The Fleut surrendered and the Shynava got borded as well...unfortunately it was all for naught because the game froze when I boarded the fleut and my captain seemed frozen on the spot on the enemy deck, and I couldn't move him at all.

Also, has anyone else noticed that the skill toughness seems just waaaay to good? I mean half the time you don't even have to worry about blocking because the damage regenerates at too staggering a rate. Even bullets for the most part won't leave a mark. The only way I have died when having toughness is when surrounded by like 4 people and they all strike at once and I don't block. Maybe the skill could be tweaked to not regenerate quite so fast? Or maybe instead of regeneration just give it another damage reduction like defense and basic defense, in addition to the poison resistance?

I was also wondering how dramatic are the skill level increases? Apprentice seems way too easy...well everything except the fencing, when you don't have toughness yet or getting blasted by a boobytrap.

lmao, thanks Petros :p Actually, the guy who spotted me for who I was started it, the sneaky merchant only came up on me when I had 5 guards left in front of me and I was ready to run, he blocked my way to the ship, swung his sword at me and i shot him (at point blank) and then finished the rest of him off with my treasured Excellent Bosuns Choice :p

As for "accidently sacking the fort"... I really didnt want to, but telling a manowar and 2 battleships to not fire just didnt seem to happen fast enough... after their first volleys the fort was screwed.

and as for ships striking their colors, I entered a battle between the brits (who I am a lieutenet with) and some pirates, hoping to scrounge some food off of the pirates (So what? I uh.... uh... knew the captain on the brit ship, yeah!) and one of the pirates struck her colors... i did nothing except sail up to the side of her (which, with 70 something ((at the time)) men took forever) and board. The brits sunk the other one, started towards the one i was sailing for, and then up and turned away and let me have it.

darkphoenix: the first bug is fixed in the update. about toughness: why are you complaining? i'm having great fun with it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> but yes, it may seem overpowered, but in the maltese abbey, forts and boardings i still get killed sometimes, even with the skill. and apprentice level is meant to be easy. try a higher level and you will definatly have to block to avoid being killed.

example: an excellent brace of large pistols does max. 210 damage. you will always keep 5 hp, but if you get hit again, you're dead, even with toughness. and considering the fact that soldiers in forts are all equipped with that kind of weapons, it isn't that easy at all. your toughest enemies will probably be the pirats gaurding a treasure chest. it sometimes takes me several tries to kill them all without dying, even at apprentice level. it does get easier at higher levels, because you have some backup hp, but not that much.

Why not? If those ships are Pirates, then they are in combat state against "you", as well as the fort.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Hmm. Good point. I don't know how the code for it works exactly, so I don't know what it is exactly intended to do, nor what it actually does. You could very well be right that all ships that were hostile to you before surrendering can be boarded.

So in summation, we can say that WhiteWolf has verified that this part of code "is" working as intended. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

I can confirm that as well: I did it as well yesterday. Everybody in town tried to kill me, my reputation dropped to "Horror of the High Sea" and England became hostile as well. I was in Oxbay port at the time. Seems like it really isn't a healthy idea to kill a trader. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

I do wonder what happens when everybody in town tries to kill you though. If one of them is a trader and the trader tries to kill YOU, then you probably STILL get the enormous reputation hit when you kill the trader. Even though you HAVE to in self defense. Is that fair?

In the next Build 14 Alpha version, I have tried to make toughness a bit less good, which hopefully works better in the game.

it has happened plenty of times to me, but if you're officer kills him, you don't get the penalties. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" /> do you get the penalty when you attack him or when you kill him? you can probably guess why i ask. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Okay, yeah I have started a new game under Adventurer Level and it seems that the enemies are a bit better equipped, so it is a little more challenging. It just seems kind of wacky that you can get shot or stabbed and like 1-2 seconds later it is like nothing happens. Maybe just have toughness reduce damage done by bullets, as they seem to be the hardest to deal with? And please, don't take this the wrong way. It is in no way, shape, or form a complaint. I know the tremendous amount of work that went into this and I appreciate the work done very much. I know I used to be a programmer, but that was a loooooong time ago, so I know it would be beyond me to modify the code.

A few other things I have noticed it the Beatrice Devlin skin, when you kill someone with it the don't fall to the ground like the others....they stand there. Also, when talking to them you don't get a portrait, you see a green hazy mist. Is there any way to fix these two minor graphical glitches? These don't detract from playability, so yes....they are indeed very minor. Also, not for this update....but in a future build, would it be possible to when buying a new outfit, just have the officer in question buy the clothes and not alter his facial or gender appearance? LOL

i meant it like this: why complain if it's for your own benefit? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

beatrice and blaze have no PotC animations, so they keep standing up. they also can't swim. they just hover. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

It has been like this all through your POTC-Mods, post B12 and Pre B13 versions and it worked fine.
I have always been able to capture surrendered "Enemy" ships,
I don't see why anyone would want to change it now.

It is fine as it is. Nothing needs to be changed. I was just not sure what it actually did. That's what you get when I don't really play much. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" />
