<u><b>RECAP: How and where to find a Ship of the Line ?</b></u>

Many player seem to get Ship of the Line from the french and the Dutch.
So not only the Enlgish will spawn it, but I think the english have a higher chance of producing the SOL.
<b>a spanish SOL as never been seen</b> (make sense sense the use almost exclusively GALLEON)

<b>1- Just hit hard one non spanish nation</b>, ship and town.
pick a specific non spanish city and attack any ships
from any nation trying to get to that city, also attack all ships going out of the harbour, of your targetted city.
<b>Now Watch for the ship tag NEW WARHIP.</b>
<b>But not all NEW WARHIP tag are SOL </b>
(for spanish the tag usually mean flag, fast or royal galleon)

For non spanish NEW WARSHIP tag could be a frigate or the best type of other ship design (sloop, brigantine)

2- The higer the level of difficulty you play the better the chance to see the NEW WARSHIP tag, and see a SOL.
3- `1620-1640`-`1660-1680` SOL sighting confirmed

Can ppl playing earlier era try the above and see if SOL will spawn.
And post your finding here.
Thanks

How I did it

I Started in 1680, I went to st kitts, I shot a lot of cannon balls at the fort (using the space bar)
(20 shots or more) and the wealth of the city went down from wealthy to prosperous, than poor

I attacked all ships from any nation going to st kitts.
got a few fights vs pirates hunter.

Than i went to nevis, did the same.
Than i went to antigua, did the same.

But just after a few combat (`2-4` ship to ship combat)
a big ship with the tag NEW SHIPS came out of Anitgua
It was an english ship of the line, wich is now mine.

All the above did not take more than `15-20` minutes of real times.

I didn't even made a single land attack vs those 3 english town.

For all of you who never saw, or had a SOL try this it work everytime for me at least at swashbuckler level and starting in 1680
I didn't try the earlier period (not sure id SOL exist in the game before 1640)

(I was Duke for all nation when I did this, and was using a Large Frigate, I was playing at swashbucler)

Have fun

I have one that appeared in the 1620 era. It appeared as a new warship and was a French ship. I was beating the hell out of the French pretty hard at the time as I has reached French Duke. Funny, I had seen quite a few "New Warships" around, but taking them for Frigates, I let them go as I was on the hunt for other things. I wonder how many of them might have been SOLs.

Dang,remember spott'n new warship tag but ignored being proccupied wid another quest,didn't realize it would be a SOL <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Dem new fangled wardhips kin knock de stuffin' out o' yer smaller ship! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> So dem be de Ships o' de Line? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Harrrr! Fred Bob,was beginn'n tew think SOL stands fer Sh't Outof Luck <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

I see "NEW WARSHIPS" everywhere and they are all Spanish and none of them are ships pf the line. They are mostly Sloops and War Galleons. Everytime I turn around there is another "New Warship". Of course the Spanish have a 210,000 gold price on my head, so they are trying very hard. I guess the Spanish do not have the SOL.. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

One of the other Pirates! forums has a stickied thread on this. Essentially their findings are:

1. Only the English, French and Dutch produce Ships of the Line.
2. Time period affects occurance, as these ships were not around until the mid 1600's.
3. The best way of getting one is to attack the shipping from one country. Destroy/capture any warships (i.e. frigates, galleons etc) that you come across and eventually ships of the line will start being shipped in from europe.

Not all New Warships are SOTLs. I wonder if I had let it reach the port it was going to, if they would have dispatched it as a Pirate Hunter the next time I attacked a ship near that town. Phew... it was hard enough to tackle that bear when I was ready for it, I'd hate to be chased <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
