Why is it the AI can pilot bigger ships with less Navigation than us and get away with it.
Here is a spyglass of a Corvette ( behind the see through rock. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> ) that the captain only has a 40 Navigation, you need at least 65 Navigation for a class three Corvette.

Well.... <a href="http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheComputerIsACheatingBastard" target="_blank">the computer is a cheating bastard</a>, dontcha know. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
That said, it's not much of a cheat if it gives the advantage to you. He's weaker than he should be for that ship. So I don't mind. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

No one said you cannot be a captain of any ship with any navigation skill. You can have -30 navigation skill (from items) and be a captain of Man-o-War. You will have heavy penalties but this is not your question, right?

Right, that was not my question.

Well, I believe the idea is that even with todays technology, AI cannot be made to truly challenge a good player without some form of cheating. I'm not sure if it's as true today as it was in the past. But it seems reasonable. Maybe when computers can actually "think" for themselves, as opposed to following extensive scripts and decision trees.
