How do i attack a town?

I have been playing for about 10 hours now and I just cant work out how to attack a town. Even if my nation is at war with one and i sail into it i just enter the town.

Ive read the whole manual and I just cant figure it out.

I know its probably a really bvious answer and I look really stupid but plz help lol.

The are two ways you can do it. By ship (using the spacebar) will fire salvos at the town. Or go on land with your crew and attack a city. The choice is yours. I`m sure this is mentioned somewehre in the manual.
