How to get to log history?

Hi all, new to the forum and to the build mod. Played POTC when it first came out and saw the potential, but was overall disappointed. I think once I get used to all the bugs in Build 12, I'm really gonna love it, so thanks for all the hard work to everyone who helped.

My question is this: is there a way to view the history of all that text that gets printed in the upper left hand corner? I'm talking about when you get xp, get gold, sink ships and stuff. Usually when stuff gets printed there I'm too busy fighting or sailing to see what's going on, I want a way to pull up that history and look at it at my own leisure instead of hurrying and trying to catch it as it flies by before it goes away. Anyone know?

Also, a manual for Build 12 would be nice, rather than a bunch of trial and error. I found the FAQ and read it, and I read thru buildsettings.c and checked all that out, but just a nice little manual or something would be cool. Basically I just want more reading material on it. Thanks all

I answered your first question about the logs in <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/index.php?showtopic=7261&hl=" target="_blank">this</a> thread.

Build 12 itself is pretty bug-free. Unfortunately, the Post Build 12 mods most certainly are not. I should try and compile a good and stable Build 13 using the confirmed working mods, but so far, I have been too busy for that. Once that is done, we can write up some good documentation on it.

I'm pretty sure I have regular Build 12, but I'm not positive. I haven't added anything, so that's what I should have. Either way I've encountered a couple pretty nasty bugs, but I save a lot so it's mainly a minor annoyance rather than a deal breaker.

What nasty bugs are you having with Build 12? To be sure of what you have, open up your main PotC folder. If there is no "Post Build 12 Version.txt" file, then you're using Build 12.

I don't have that text file in my main POTC folder, so apparently I have 12. The worst bug I've seen so far is my character's stats got all screwed up one time. I'd been working on certain skills and then all of a sudden I lose those points in those skills and instead I have points in other skills. Also my abilities got juggled around. Basically wrecked my character. Sometimes, I have zero crew, for no reason. One time I sold a prize ship and went back to the port to find - a freakin manowar, whereas I had been sailing a lugger. Had to back up to a previous save on that one, what's the point if you start out in the biggest ship in the game?

Another thing that bothers me, don't know if it's actually a bug or not, is I'll be sailing around and it will switch instantly from day to night or vice versa. Kinda takes away from the immersion, as you can imagine. Also, did you get my email with the nighttime screenshots? I'm curious as to why night looks like crap, I've seen other people's night screenshots and they look fine compared to mine. Thanks for the help.

Now those are some TRULY crazy bugs. I finished the game using Build 12.1 and never had anything like that happen to me. I would recommend reinstalling. This is not supposed to happen. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

The day-to-night changes are actually a mod that changes the time and weather every now and then. Unfortunately, this can't be made to happen in a smooth way. In the Post Build 12 mods, we added a toggle on it.

Those bugs with my characters stats getting jacked up and the manowar appearing, I'm pretty sure it's related to when I bought a new ship and sold my old one. When I bought the new one, I put it in the bottom left corner of my empty ship slots. When I sold my original ship, I of course sold it from its original spot in the top left corner. Since that top left corner is reserved for whatever ship I'm in at the time, and I sold it, the game generated a ship to fill that slot, so I'm pretty sure that's where the manowar came from. I'm also guessing that it swapped my stats with one of my officers' stats, as it tried to give the manowar a new captain. I didn't try to repeat the bug, but that's my guess as to why it happened. Now when I buy/sell ships I'm a little more careful about it, and I haven't seen the problem again.

If you want to buy a new ship, you don't need to mess around with ship slots. Not if you buy the ship for yourself. The original ship is automatically sold and the new ship automatically bought. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Yeah I figured that one out at about the same time I screwed my character and got a free manowar. I could have just reloaded to before, but I wanted to restart anyway and approach it from a more role playing aspect anyway. Plus I didn't understand the skill system that well when I first started, so I was spreading out my captain's skills instead of focusing on a couple things and allowing my officers to focus on things, thereby screwing up my character even before the bug screwed him up even more.

By the way, did you get those screenshots I sent you of my crappy night sky textures?

Yes, I got them. I will send you my sky textures. Maybe somehow yours are messed up?

I uploaded my sky textures <a href="http://pieter.piratesahoy.org/downloads/skies.zip" target="_blank">here</a> (3,80 MB). Put them in RESOURCE\Textures\WEATHER\SKIES. I hope this will help your night skies to look better. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
