I can't start a new game

I have just downloaded and installed the Build 12. I have it updated, but when I try to start a new game I just get a black screen <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> . It doesn't change for about five minutes, when I closed it. I have tried it many times, and I have downloaded the latest updates. I have a spanish version, if that matters. I hope any of you will be so kind to help me.

Did you get any delocalizer prompts during install? I.e. "Choose language".
Also, please try `re-downloading` and running the build12 updater again.

If it still doesn't work, please open your_potc_folderengine.ini

change 1 to 0
Start POTC, and then post the logs (error.log, system.log, compile.log). Note you may not get all three; post what you get.
 
Thanks for your reply. I'll try it tomorrow.
I did have a question where I chose the language. It was Spanish by default, so I didn't change it.

I see the black screen too

ok i can press F2 and i get the char options or i pres r and i see the time goes with x3.

Just to add, I have exactly the same problem. I am using the European version, but, according to the PotC Mod Helper program in the POTC/tools folder, the files were succesfully delocalised, presumably when I installed Build 12.

If you think my logs would help you, just tell me to post them, and I will.
 
Sorted. Have no idea why this worked, but I did a clean reinstall of PotC, downloaded and installed Build 11 from the PA Public FTP (details in this thread - <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/ftopic978.php" target="_blank">http://forum.piratesahoy.net/ftopic978.php</a>), made sure all the boxes except 'Extra textures' was checked, installed that, then installed Build 12 on top, making sure all the boxes in that was checked. Got an error about the file 'Buildsettings.h' upon first attempt to install Build 12, but it was fine when I tried again.
 
Hi this is my first post on this forum. I am also having the same problem with a black screen after starting a new game of POTC (English Ubisoft) with Build 12 downloaded today. I am using an Athlon xp266 processor with 512 Meg of ram, an nVidia FX5200 graphics card and an SB PCI 128 sound card
running with Windows 98SE. I hope I don't have to try White Wolf's solution
as it took about 8 hours to download through the installer with a `dial-up` connection.

I have just finished playing the original POTC and enjoyed it immensly. I am eagerly waitnig to play Build 12 when this problem is ironed out.
 
Hi again. I ended up doing what White Wolf suggested (along with others elsewhere on this forum) and installed Build 12 over Build 11 and now the game works fine. Thanks to all.
