Forgotten Battles was initially a patch for IL2 Sturmovik. It has more content (Now has 89 flyable and 49 AI only planes), better graphics, If your pc can handle it, a better bamage system.
Also, there is an expansion out for Forgotten Balltes, the Aces Expansion Pack. It adds 29 flyable (Including Spitfires, Mustangs A ME163, and The Mistel composite aircraft) and 7 AI only planes (V1 hunting, anyone?), 3 new maps, 9 new campaigns, 4 multiplayer dynamic campaigns, 33 single missions and 10 `co-op` multiplayer missions. Plus more flight, damage model and AI improvements. I think u can also get both Forgotten Battles and the Aces expansion pack in a single set, Forgotten battles Gold or something. In all it is a major improvement over the original game.

If u get the game, i suggest u head over to the official site and get the upgrades, i think ther is just the 2.01 patch for Forgotten battles withe the AEP (aces expansion pack). It is 102mb <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> but these guys usually throw in extra stuff into their patches. IL2:FB AEP version 2.01 for example adds:

3. New flyable: `Yak-3P`.
4. New flyable: `Yak-9B`.
5. New flyable: `Yak-7A`.
6. New flyable: `Yak-9M`.

Thats quite a list eh? and thats the only new stuff in the patch, but there are changes etc as one would expect.
