Now that would be so incredibly wicked!
Becomeing a visious pirate and then get overrun by some other person <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
Trading with real people, fighting with real people, etc.

So cool if you could find other persons treasures and stuff <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Now thats a game I could marry <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I just hope if such a game comes out that Sony is not doing it. Or it will be like Everquest just who gets the best items *vomit*

I was acutally thinking about a multiplayer concept this morning. I think an MMORPG would be too grand in scope and you'd lose that SMPirates! feel to it. But I was trying to figure out how you could do a smaller multiplayer design... say 20 people on a server at once - like an FPS in scale. Could not be persisten world or anything.

I guess basically, you'd just have the world the way it is now, but it'd be populated by several players doing their thing. They could team up for larger raids, or attack each other etc... You'd have to manage somehow, a way to prevent the seniority factor. What I mean is that if someone has been on the server for 5 hours one day, odds have it, he's gotten many of the special items and ship mods. Then some upstart logs on in a plain vanilla sloop and has no chance against the old salt. There would have to be a way to level the playing field so that there would be other advantages instead of just time in game... maybe you could do it like Battlefield 1942 or something in that everyone starts at the same time and plays for a set time. You tally up your gold, successful battles, ladies woo'ed etc... after an hour or two and the one at the top wins.

I dunno, I'm not a game designer. But I think you HAVE to keep the SMPirates! feel.

I would like to see a multiplayer version of Pirates! though, not so much an MMORPG.

I have MMORPG experience and I think it would lose it's "Pirates!" flavor. Though I would like to see a 17th century Carribean MMORPG - just not "this" game.

World of Pirates (WoP) tries to supply a MMOG Pirates! experience, and succeeds on some levels, if you want to give that a try.

Well, while I'm sure it wont have the Pirates! style to it, there is a Pirate MMORPG coming out called Pirates of the Burning Sea. There's even a forum for it on this site, heh.

Try <a href="http://www.burningsea.com/" target="_blank"><b>Pirates Of The Burning Sea</b></a> for a MMORPG. It is scheduled Q4 of 2004, but I guess it'll take a while longer.

The World Of Pirates seems bit like Pirates! www.worldofpirates.de (Its on free beta now <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" /> ) :p

I've played WoP since the closed beta testing and it does look like Pirates! . Also if you are looking for some thing like Pirates! (original) try Hunt for Gold - a beautiful Java game.
