Kidnapped people

AOP2 City of Abandoned Ships - I have a couple of spouses to rescue that have been kidnapped by a pirate. The pirate kidnapper is leisurely strolling around Port Royal and my logbook says that I must board his ship and perform the rescue. The ship is nowhere. I have tried asking every one in town including the shipbuilder, store-owner, moneylender, port control, everyone in the tavern and even the governor. I have tried every shore via the jungle and by sea using the quick sail method. I have even sailed all around Jamaica. So now I give up - how do I find his ship??

Look fer a color-coded (orange or green or...) quest ship on de World Map an' board it!

There's no point in wasting time on actively searching for these ships. The game is more than a little screwy in giving you directions and there's no time limit on the quest anyway, so it's easier to just go about your business. Eventually you'll bump into them.
Oh, and to correct what Fred Bob said, orange and green sailed ships on the map are indeed quest ships, but you're supposed to board orange ones and talk to the captains of green ones.

I did it. I spoke again to the recidivist pirate kidnapper. Then I sailed out of the harbour and waited around the area for a while and the target appeared in due course. The damsel was rescued accordingly
