i have a prob i allways die when im hit
i go to oxbay and the first thug that attacks me kills me
i have set in the buildsettings to be 99 level (i cant do the thing with the god mod <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ) and im somewhere 400 health still die any suggestions <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />
My suggestion is to lower the values for level and health to default, because some values of encounters will be generated from your mainchar values. I know that the blade of your enemy is selected by your level, but the skills end level maybe someone other can tell you. CCC! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Right, the higher your level the stronger the randomly generated bandits and monsters are.

But you can switch those bandits in town off in the buildsettings.h file. Set this

#define TOWN_BANDIT_CHANCE 0.5 // chance of there being bandits at all. x2 if at night.

To zero and at least in town you will usually be safe.
Apart from that, learn to block in fencing. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/duel_pa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ixi" border="0" alt="duel_pa.gif" /> That's the key to surviving.

After beating the game I set my difficulty at hardest, just for a lark. I immediately encountered pirates with over 1000 HP. My biggest gripe is how small my own HP stays... I can hire a new cofficer with twice my current health, but my own goes up excruciatingly slowly.

So, I'm taking matters into my own hands. I could either ask a resident to heal me for 100 straight days, or mod in a quicker (but not easier) `HP-upper` thingummie. It'll be one of the things Steven `Mather-Wren` does from his apothocary, once you bring him the ingredients he needs, gathered from all over the archepelago.

Now someone remind me, kindly... How do I make an NPC in dialog check my inventory for a certain item?

Alan, are you designing a "`level-up`"? Unless what you want to do is design it so that you have longer duels, is that the idea? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Because the difficulty level thing is for when you want to have more of a challenge. Perhaps the way to do this is to make it so that EVERYONE has more HP so duels are longer... Then the difficulty levels should incrementally remain the same for HP and increasing difficulty in the game when you want it, right?

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Did that make sense? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Dialog check will be like this:

<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->  case "eda_node1":

     dialog.text = DLG_TEXT[30] + PChar.lastname + DLG_TEXT[31];

     link.l1 = DLG_TEXT[32] + PChar.name + DLG_TEXT[33];

     if(CheckCharacterItem(Pchar,"Letter_Reward"))

     {

   Link.l1.go = "eda_node3";

     }

     else

     {

   Link.l1.go = "eda_node3a";

     }

 break;  <!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->That's from Estrella de Alencar's dialog. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Sweet, thanks. There're a couple places I want to use a thing like this.
Here's another: How do I get money subtracted from the player's stash and not the crew's when I buy something? The tattoos are going to be a personal expense, naturally.

With the HP, all I mean to do is increase the player's by a little, so you don't die so easily*. You already get one extra point by going to a resident and having him heal you, so I'll just increase it by five or so points, same as a `level-up`, but expensively or after some quest `hokey-pokey`. I think it's sill you start out with 40 hp but can hire officers who have double that immediately. I also need a good use for these untold billions I've accrued, and it'd easily be worth a couple million dollars to me to get a few extra HP.

*I inadvertently found a quick way out of a stormy start at KR when your ship has only 19 hp left (I started with 40, but as soon as I went to sea there was a mysterious explosion onboard, so I had to `re-land`.) Anyway, you die, and if you're revived, it's at Greenford. Ha.

Not sure about that personal stash - you might look at the code where you donate to the crew out of your personal stash - that should tell ya...

I think once you get into the higher levels, it is not so easy to level up and get more HP because your points to the next level also increase.

I rather liked the stormy start out of KR with a very low ship HP because you sink and get a tartane - talk about starting out POOR!!! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> :bbb

Best thing about the tartane is, the rescue boat one I mean, is you don't have to feed your crew out of it. But I wanna design a little liferaft, that'd be even cooler... like, 9 HP max, no speed... maybe you got one pistol you can fire from it - if I'm feeling generous.

The tattoos are going to be a personal expense, naturally.[/quote]Check out the blacksmith dialog.c from my PotCMods.zip. It can be set so you pay out of your personal wealth. It's got to do with using "MainChar.wealth" instead of the default "MainChar.money".
BTW: Can't wait for your upcoming new mods. They really do sound like extremely much fun! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

I guess I'll fool around with that, thanks. This is one of only a few things that need done before the tattoos mod is ready.

I bet CCC knows for sure. Where is he?

Bugfixinging I was <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I wonder if i will ever get on with my new mods <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rolleyes:" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

And you'd better not bet on me, most things i only guess <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

As for paying out of your private money, Pieter is right:

pchar.wealth = pchar.wealth - tatooprice ;

should do.

I see... I'll try that. I tried half a dozen variations on thepayment scheme and none of them worked, but that exact line I don't believe I tried. Do I need to makeref "pchar.wealth" at the top of the file, as an int or anything?
