Let's set a deadline for Build 12 Mods

CatalinaThePirate

Unholy Terror,
Storm Modder
It's been suggested, and I agree, that it's time to set a deadline for what is to be included in Build 12 so we can get this moving and compiled and out for general release.

Let's talk in this topic about the mods unfinished but near completion. Who has mods that are ALMOST finished and can you give us a timeframe as to when they might be finished?

That said, my Sneaky Trader mod is getting more complicated so I'm afraid it won't be included in Build 12 as I foresee it taking MUCH longer to complete. But no worries, there's plenty more that CAN be included!

What do we have coming up finished SOON? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Well the Royal Navy portion of my Military mods has been done for a while and up on the FTP but no one has said anything about them. I am afraid that there might be a problem with my FTP putting them up properly. I would appreciate it if someone would check the site and see if it works. The file is called "JMV575 -- Britain, Spain, France Military Reskins -- `1793-1815`.rar" There is another file of the same name but is a zip file that doesn't work, and I don't know how to remove it from the FTP site. One of the problems could be because it is so big... if that is the case, I will break it up and have a smaller file of only the British Soldiers and Naval Officers instead of one file of Brtiish, Spanish, and French.

Also, the other day I put up my pack of new ships. That is also a rar file called "JMV Late 18th Century Unrated Naval Vessels.rar". I would love for that to be included.

I've got three other mods that I've been working on: New types of Lateen rigs, I have two dhou's - a 20 gun and a 24 gun, a Mod for the "character skins" i,e reskins of Blaze, Rheims, Clair Larousse etc... I think that the special named characters that are important to the main quests should have their own skins, and finally a long project for a 1801 mod. Depending on the date we select I could have either the reskins and/or the Arab ships done. The 1801 mod is a very long project, but everything I try to do is with an eye toward such a mod.

Personally I think sooner is better than later on this, especially considering its not simply putting the mods together, but also making them `toggle-able` from the buildsettings.h file. My recomendation would be to have the deadline be no later than September 3rd so as to give us ample time for mods "near completion" but not enough to start something new and try to rush it. Also it would start the compilation period on a weekend when presumably schedules are more flexible.

Thanks for your input! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

[ but no one has said anything about them.

JMV, I`ve got them and I like them. It´s only a question of which time period you want to play. Someone discussed somewhere about possible options. I think that would be great. Sort of let´s say 3 designs of ships and uniforms, maybe even pistols etc etc

Thanks Jack. Keith sent me a PM a while ago saying he couldn't get the download to work. I thought I had made a mistake. I can relax.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Oh don't worry - just give a projection of when things will be finished, and we can work from there. We really do need a stopping point so things can be finalized - or else we'll never get this thing out there for everyone! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

... and there most likely will be udder builds! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Argh, Sept. 3? All I really have "finished" finished are a few skins. All my coding attempts ran into snags and I never got any finished - no curiosities shop, no underground city beneath FdF...

My contribution to the blacksmith mod is pretty much done - skins and dialogs. I couldn't get a proper shop designed, though I do have buildings picked out on all the islands. I just for some reason couldn't get people placed inside them without killing my game. I gave RobC some of my files, but I don't hear from him anymore. I'd love to see the basics of his mod included.

I also have maybe half a dozen new skins, the ones with celebrity faces... though I could never get them so fully integrated as to have their own profiles or even animated heads. Could I send the skins/corresponding models to someone who could finish off the coding?

Give us a time frame, Alan. The deadline is not set in stone yet. We need input here - everyone who has a mod in development needs to chime in here and tell us what your projected release date will be. We want to work with everyone to find a common ground so we can get these mods out to the public in the next build.

alan,

If you put them up on the FTP server, I'll take care of them for you. I've gotten not to mind it, even if it is a sorta mindless task.

If you need an FTP program, google "Smart FTP." Then, once you have it installed read the sticky thread called POTC FTP (or something to that effect).

I'll get 'em done right quick.

Good luck with your shop mate.

I don't personally have anything on the table at the moment (For the foreseeable (hah!) future I'll be pretty busy with PMTExpansion work.) But I think a deadline _is_ a good idea, and I'm happy to help with bugfixing and the like.

And let me just say that I'm very happy to see development continuing, and the build sailing forth. It's truly great to see the build, which began as a community venture, become more and more one, and with so many new (and old!) faces popping out. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

It's gotten quite lively in here, and I like it! Some good ideas, great mods, and learning, sharing, giving, that's what I like to see...

We've got a good group here. This is what it *should* be like. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

hear, hear <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

All depends on when I can get to a computer with internet access and a CD drive... I'm reliant on `on-campus` computers for now, and so far what I've found has all the disk drives disabled.

MIGHT get broadband or something in at the apartment, but that may not be for another few weeks. I will see if I can find anything on campus. (BUt like I said, the coding is too screwy, so it'll just be some skins).

Annndd... anyone can upload stuff to the FTP? I thought only an admin could...

A $15 thumb drive, mebbe?
And, anyone can upload to the ftp; check the FTP Details thread in this forum for un/pwd details. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Yep, one of those little USB stick or pen drives would help, I'm sure! Great idea, Nathan! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />

Hope you can straighten that out, Alan! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

ok, i've come to the conclusion that 3rd september is <i>definitely</i> too soon... can it be slightly later than that? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Yes, Alan wants more time too... So of course.

We haven't had any input other than you or Alan - Do you think we could stand to hold out for another month?

I don't think a whole month is needed. Tomorrow I'll look into getting my images off a disk and onto the FTP. But with classes starting Thursday a dark pallour is cast upon my chances of clearing up my coding soon.. I'm going to give what I have instead of holding up the works. Impressed as I am with the build, I'd be hella pleased just to have a small bit included in the next release.
