I didn't even say I *can* do it - just said I could *try*! It's not guaranteed to work: I had no luck with the ship Alan wanted to have cut out. And in this case the major problem might not be removing the mountain, but filling the vacancy with water. Or would that come automatically if the terrain was low enough?
Anyway, I'll give it a try tomorrow...

Alan, what I don't understand is why do you want to use the bridge form Isla Muelle? Why not use the real FdF model ? It's got the rope bridge and all, only maybe a little less detailed. But it think it would be easier to add a few palm trees to that, put a locator into it and let your character spawn there.

You hit the point - it doesn't have paths mapped. Realized that a while after I posted. But still, rather make a path than a new model!

I've for now dropped the moving of mountains (too heavy after all) and gone back to making paths (that is, editing character patches), and made good progress - a first simple version coming VERY soon.

Do you know if anything else is neede besides the .ptc file?

And now it is uploaded - not yet possible to make new patches, but you can move the points in existing ones (only 2D, so far).
I don't think it can handle things a big as the outside locations, but for rooms it works okay.
I 'll do some more testing, and then I'll look at that FdF model...
 
Thing is, about that bridge model on the FdF island model, is it's the "you're in your boat, floating around the island" type of model. I don't know that `people-characters` could walk around on it.

If that mountain will go away, the sea will... probably show up behind it. I considered trying to fake it with the waterfall model from Douwesen, but that would likely look pretty ghetto. And thanks for giving the ship a try.

(Funny thing about that waterfall... I once, trying to make a room `smoke-filled`, applied the model property "waterfall" or "waterfall mist" or something to it, in the location definition. What it did, besides giving me a nice bit of smoke in the room, was make all the furniture and everything that wasn't a wall disappear...
 
I tried it tonight, if it has a patch, people *can* walk around on it (even got attacked already <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />). But making the correct character patch will indeed be difficult, because it has to go up and down, while I can so far only make planar patches.

I tried cutting the mountain away, too, but it just leaves a big hole in the world, and I'm not good enough a modeler to get that closed.

So I'll do some more experimets with FdF, I think after all it's still the easier way.

I hadn't even realized there is really a whole island waiting for exploration!

Falaise de Fleur rope bridge, and I felt like Columbus..
It's not really working well, though, the scale feels strange, because the model is of course huge. You walk miles and miles and hardly feel you're getting anywhere.
The character patch I used for this screenshot is just a giant plane, so the character could walk through stones and 90 meters above the water (actually it's a bit too high, so he walked a bit above the floor on land also).

After this rather unsuccessful attempt with FdF I went back to the Isla Muelle passage, and in code I was able to do what I couldn’t in the modeler: flatten the mountain! And the water came back!

Compare this view with the above:

And I see what you mean when you said it looked like a small island, but maybe I could fake a sort of background by placing some other model behind it.

Just how did you get your character up on the other bridge? I didn't think player characters could move around that model, only ships.
 
To have a character walk on an island model you only have to suplly a patch (.ptc file). However I must admit I cheated: I made that patch not with the tool as it is, but with some extra code which makes the patch much bigger and lifts it up to almost 100 units. If you want it I can send it to you, but as it is it's not really usable ingame, because you can walk everywhere, and always at the same level.

But I also liked the idea of making the whole FdF islandmodel a walkable location. I always found the outdoor locations a bit confined. So a vast plain would be a most welcome change, even if it is a bit empty. If it is possible to add goto, item and box locators to the model the game will automatically generate something to fight and plunder.

And maybe it is possible to add trees or houses not manually as models but let them be generated like random characters.

But I can sure imagine that it would be too much work to make a patch for large hilly terrain.

I'm wondering how Akella did it? Maybe a simple patch could be generated from the model itself, just following the surface geometry. Then this patch would be edited to leave out places where you can't go. heh, you know what would be funny? A random sort of warp to a "goto" in the middle of a slightly raised area, maybe a sandy spot, thus making you stuck `waist-deep` in quicksand.

So you just stand there till some nice soul comes and pulls you out... or you starve to death.

Inez, I have been wondering about the paths that take you up a hill - are they not built like steps? Your character seems to run up or down the hills like they are running up or down stairs. You said you could only build them flat - but is this the "3D" path?
