Just kidding... This is frustrating, I know. A lot of people have found maps like this. When I was betatesting this game I got a map that was completely BLANK - just the border and no coordinates suggestions or landmarks. I (and others) reported the bug but I guess they didn't or couldn't fix it. It may have something to do with how the maps are generated "on the fly" and are totally random.
All I can suggest is going southeast of Villa Hermosa and using your telescope (activate using right mouse button) and searching while walking around near the landmarks... Sweep back and forth with the telescope to view as much under the trees as you can - hopefully you won't miss it!
Either that, or go back to a previous save and see if you can't get that map generated with a real "X" !
