Making sitting duck to moving duck

Super Zealot
Yep, that's right. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

I currently have made a pirated Light Caravel ..which is in fact (like you saw on the pictures in the war stories thread) a class 0-4 ship killer. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> I gave it max 9 calibre cannons (that makes pirated version to
have 12 calibre onboard <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />).

What this caravel needs is a little bit color changing on the skin and a little balance between stats.
One thing what's bugging me is that how can such a small tubby ship have 200 men onboard? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" /> Should I change the max crew number? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

i checked your rigging. maybe it would be a good idea to give the main mast a lateen as well. that ship type DID excist, and it would make it an excellent sailer. so that would be four masts with lateen sails on the back three masts.

Aye, thought of that meself. Any easy way to do this? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

And btw.. should the first mast's (the mast what has two reys and two sails on the reys) first rey have a big square sail instead of current rectangle one? There's alot of space and a square sail should increase the speed ..literally. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

well, i know that the <u>galleons'</u> sails where often like this:

mainsail about the width and the half of that width of the hull. (1 1/2 hull width)

topsail is half the width and height of the mainsail. of course, only the topsail yard is this width, the sails is trapezium-shaped.

topgallant is half the width and height of the topsail, but caravels don't have these. the sail is again trapezium-shaped.

to answer your question, caravels has sails like the ones already in the game, though maybe wider. they wheren't pyramid-shaped like on the galleons. they where all roughly the same width, though the upper sails where a little smaller. the santa maria is an exception with a really small topsail in comparison to the mainsail. you could basically increase the size of the sails, but the sails should be roughly the same width. i'm not too sure about the height.

Eh? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" /> What should I do then exactly. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_confused.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="icon_confused.gif" />

Ye yerself said that you ARE the guy who likes to work on the rigging. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
Or did the airship ate the rigging ..modding. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Anyways.. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/user_comment.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="user_comment.gif" /> This caravel what I have currently made in my game is a pretty sweet mini ship-sinker. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
Even a galleon surrendered to it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

Oh. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_confused.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="icon_confused.gif" />

pieter is correct. only the handcrafty stuff. i have the knowledge of the ropes, but i would only be able to tell you where the ropes are supposed to go.

Okay, I understand. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
And everything should be ok as long as those ropes don't have to end up in my butt. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

never heard of the buttrope, cylon? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> i could actually think of a rope on a lateen yard which i could call that.

Hahahaha"buttrope"hahahaheheeee.... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/24.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":rofl" border="0" alt="24.gif" />

The caravel seems to be needing one more rope running between first mast and bow mast.

where? it's not always the case. for instance, old ships actually never had ropes between the masts. they did have a hefty rope going from the top of the mast to the base of the mast in front, but nothing else. when topmasts appeared, another rope was set up between the very top of the mast and the middle of the mast in front. that's it. the only ropes on the back where the shrouds at the side, which where also a little to the side. however, as ships got bigger, a couple of extra shrouds where set from the top of the mast to the hull, slightly behind the mast but mainly to the side. ships only began to use a lot of ropes between the masts until much later, and then still not a lot. most of them where the running rigging.
