Men o' War

My current fleet is a frigate and two men o' war. If I have another ship, either because I've taken it as a prize or because I'm escorting it, something odd happens. Almost every other ship I meet is a man o' war. I went to join in a battle which the lookout reported as being between four pirates and two English merchants without escorts - all six ships turned out to be men o' war. Even one of the smugglers had mutated into a man o' war, which at least meant he had some free cargo space for a change. It gets a bit boring seeing the same type of ship all the time, although it does mean my experience points are going up at an accelerated rate. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=")" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Really whats your rank?
Did you start the game with large towns and nation advancement high? Only these could be the reasons.

That was ages ago! I can't remember what level and rank I had. But the problem was basically a corrupt saved game - AoP has a habit of crashing at odd times and on one occasion it actually managed to crash while saving. I didn't realise that the file was wrecked for some time as it appeared to load correctly. So now I save fairly frequently, and if the game crashes during a file save, I go back to the previous saved game.
