Moral perils of Build 11 (and 10, I think).

Khanaris

Landlubber
I always tried to play the game in a fairly noble manner, sparing my defeated foes and rescuing peasants. I was thus somewhat surprised to find myself sacking Douwesen for the third time. At this point in finally struck me. I was, in fact, a pirate. How had I fallen so far into `high-seas` `riff-raffery`? What had driven me to become a Reaper of the Dutch?

It was not a lust for riches or power which had led me there, annihilating Warships like Grendel among sleeping Danes. It was, surprisingly enough, love (or marraige, at least). Lust for riches and power had previously led me to the maintenance of large tracts of European land, in Spain and later France. It had also introduced me to a bevy of foreign women (some eight or nine, counting Governer Silehard's daughter quite by accident), all of whom I unfortunately seduced. This left me with quite a harem, but no remaining matrimonial prospects. As Danielle's stony silence mocked me(...? ...!), I set off to woo the new English Governer's potentially lovely daughters.

Making peace with the British by peacefully blowing their fort up and then peacefully coming back later, I set about ingratiating myself to the governor. This proved harder than I had expected. The problem was that I had grown attached to the large income arriving daily from the Continent, and I was loath to sever my ties with Spain and France. I could of course content myself with slaughtering pirates, but I soon grew impatient with sinking their little ships. I remembered my glory days of hunting British War Fleets, their giant Ships of the Line falling in droves and in order.

During a routine sweep of the Archipelago's many harbor's, I found myself in Douwesen. A quick check of my International Affairs err... paper, and I noticed something odd... It turned out NOBODY liked the Dutch (except Portugal, for some reason). This was my chance! I would win the heart (and hand) of any English lady simply by ridding the seas of the treacherous Hollanders and their gigantic, `treasure-laden` armada!

And so there I found myself, declaring naval war on an entire nation in order to find myself a wife among the only Governer's household whose entire elligible female populace I had not yet taken as mistresses. I was, and still am, a Pirate, and there is just no cure for that.

(I am also still quite unmarried, as the new Governer of Redmund only had one ugly daughter for some reason.)

The moral of all this? For heaven's sake give Danielle some dialogue after the end! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I'm probably not the one to ask to do that, tho - I don't care much for Danielle, she's a `so-so` officer with `so-so` stats, and she's TROUBLE because she's WAAAY too impulsive for her own good... If it weren't for her, maybe we would still be able to use the temple on KR instead of sift through its dust... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

Her only redeeming feature seems to be that she is immortal, so she WILL be able to help watch your back when you are playing at Swashbuckler level and board a bigger ship... Heh...

I think you're better off with the gov's daughter - and unfortunately the models for the daughters and nieces don't change much - they're all rather plain... I think the only one I really was surprised about was the blonde - she popped up after quadruplet nieces - the ones in the green dress... That was the Portuguese gov's daughter, and I married her... I still have the mistresses, but if you continue to take them away for "a day and night", your rep will decrease... BUT if you just pay attention to your wife, your rep will INCREASE! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

How's THAT for morality? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Welcome aboard matey,I'd be think'n thar be a little pirate in all of us,some more den others, fer sure,I'd jest be use'n de Governers fer me me own purposes an I'd be sink'n an catur'n anything at floats,De only character I'd be kinda fond of would be Nigel Blythe,he'd be a crafty bugger, but I like em probably cause he reminds me of meself,a quest well werth yer time tew indulge if ye haven't yet <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I was going to comment upon how this feature provided me with a means of keeping my reputation at "Dashing", other than not paying my crew.

I started doing pirate quests for the Dutch Governor rather late in my save game, but I am at MarkGraaf (sp?) and I have as yet to see a Dutch daughter or niece. Has anyone else had this happen? I am not sure this is a bad thing considering how the Governor of Douwesan's face looks, my expectations for his kin are not high. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Aye,ye 'ave a good point dar Sir Chris.,I said dis before he reminds of a weasel, but he might have a pretty wife,so his daughters ay not be half bad,Har!

What is MarkGraaf, is that the equivalent of a Marquise? I would think that with a "dashing" rep you should have been introduced to SOMEONE by now... Maybe you don't have enough $ ? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Lady Cat,
Markgraaf is just below Markies, and Markies is the equivalent of Marquess, Marquis, or Marques, which, mark my words, is the highest rank, so I am informed, that one can obtain if one wishes to make ones' mark! whew!

Money is no object; it always is when you haven't got any. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I'm actually surprised that you are commenting on the decided lack of Douwesan Dames, rather than my questionable methodology regarding reputation manipulation.
<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" />

Am I the only one who ran into this?

I was commenting in general that the "daughters and nieces" selection should be a bit more varied... I always get a shock when I walk into a tavern and find out the barmaid who seems to be trying to cozy up to me looks VERY much like my wife! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

(I *am* playing as Nathaniel) (HA!)

I'd certainly hope so Catalina <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I wonder if I shouldn't make up a "manly" CatalinaThePirate skin for one of the models - After all, most women pirates or mariners of the age of sail masqueraded as men...

Catalina de Erauso, the real life female "hellcat" my persona is based upon was a lieutenant in the Spanish Army in Peru, for a time... Hmmmm...

I think, Lady Cat that you should follow this idea, if for no other reason than to avenge the Catalina Erantzo character in the Uncharted `Waters-New` Horizons game.

I played every character in that game, including Catalina, and where the boys could take advantage of the "Girl in every port feature," to get information on enemy fleets, it is my recollection that Catalina was excluded from this because she couldn't gain the affections of the barmaids by plying them with jewelry and other goods. On the other hand, Catalina could keep all her jewelry herself, so maybe it did all work out.
<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

i reckon danielle will be given some sort of gainful employment in the pmt expansion (a huge expansion of the game involving new islands, etc.), whenever that is completed...

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_twisted.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_twisted.gif" /> Danielle is a PITA! No wonder Ralph got killed! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ib012.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cry" border="0" alt="ib012.gif" />:

I am not sorry to be rid of her when the main quest ends... Losing her (by assigning her a second officer position on a ship to be sold) is not quite as satisfying as losing that ol' rascal opportunist Nigel. At least you get some entertainment value out of that! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

But then again, that's MHO... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

To be completely fair, prior to the fiasco described above, I had drifted into excessive piratical behavior once before. It concerned several passengers my ship had taken on, mainly out of pity. These various sodden souls had little real use to me. Their abilities were mediocre, and in the case of that French pirate, their very presence cast a pall on my character.

What to do with these unwanted guests, then? They would not leave via normal means. I could, as Catalina suggested, confound them with `ship-to`-ship transfer orders. I suppose that idea would also mean that I could sell my extra ships as "furnished".

At the time, however, such logistical scheming had been replaced by distinct irritation. I opted for a faster and more permanent method of employee disposal. To make a long story short, I discovered a new use for the Tartane. I picked one up cheap in Oxbay, and loaded it with all of my unwanted minions. As a point of pride, it only took my gunners a single salvo to destroy. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

I think I'll do that with both Nigel AND Danielle, this time through.

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Unless you can't sink a "immortal" like Danielle... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" /> I can see it now, you sink her and around the next cove there she is, madder than a wet hen, spittin' fire and... Ummm... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Ralph died because the poor blighter only had 10 HP; yay for the "T" feature, it's helped me choose my fights well. I wonder... you can increase his HP and even enable immortality on him, right? How would THAT affect the main quest? Maybe disable Danny's at the same time and be rid of her, and carry on your adventure with ol' potato nose Ralph by your side, a fine and stereotypical first mate. I can just see the final cutscene now...

"Oh, erm, good work there, Ralph ol' boy. Now... I've got some business below deck, if you'll excuse me. Oh look, what a marvelous sunset, you stay here and enjoy..."

--

So I've been making my own lady pirate skins, but they're nothing special... just a few belts, scars and patches, and slightly darker skin from the sun and salt. Still can't hold a gun. I'd be curious to paste a lady's face over a man's body now, fem him out just enough, and have a servicable `lady-masquerading`-`as-a`-dude pirate. Maybe you take "him" aboard in a tavern, and "he" mutinies against you ... cut to a battle against your own men on your own deck... you get tossed overboard and marooned, and "she" sails away laughing, doffing her cap to reveal her tossed curls. Yeah.

That reminds me, did I mention I'd like to see some kids in the game? Grubby orphans to steal from you in the towns, dapper cabin boys, stowaways to enable new quests, and so on. Would it be possible to simply 'shrink' a regular model into the right size?

I guess if you increase his HP he'll just take longer to die - and if you defeat the soldiers before he dies, he'll probably just stand there or maybe even fade away anyhow... There's no more dialog or commands for him to do anything - so he probably wouldn't follow you and he'd stay standing there in the tavern...

OR if you make him immortal, he'd do the same thing...

Would be an interesting experiment! I think I'll try that! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

I got "stuck" (not really stuck, just an odd situation) once in the game - at Redmond in front of the tavern when you deliver the chest - the immortal pirates started a fight with my officers and the town guards jumped in - I stood back to watch - but I should have kept my sword out because the moment I sheathed it the dialog triggered and the pirates ran off to leave my officers taking on the entire Redmond garrison. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Pretty funny stuff.

Imagine pitting one immortal group against another that continually respawns... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Yes, I've been toying with that idea, myself. I mean, when women were pirates or in the military during those days, they *had* to masquerade as men...

The `real-life` woman I base my persona on, Catalina de Erauso, while not exactly a pirate was a hellraising gambling drinking dueling heroic lieutenant in the Spanish army in Peru in the 1600's. Quite a hellcat. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />
