Movie game

The originally game Pirates of the Caribbean looks not really like the movie.
Could it be posible to make it more like the movie, like, you start as Captain Jack Sparrow and the first mision is to escape from the jail.
Where he meets Will (for the second time because the fight but i think that isn't possible). Then he has to cappture a ship in the bay the Interceptor.
And so on.
And that there will be movie clips in the game.

could that be possible <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />
i hope so because i try't it but it didn't workt so good. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

P.S sorry for the bad English

If it <i>is</i> possible, it'll be really, really difficult and would require a very big lot of work to manage. The best you can do is give yourself the Captain Jack Sparrow or Will Turner skin at the beginning of the game and name yourself after them. Then you can pretend to be playing a new story that takes place before the movie (or after the movie; as long as you don't run into the Black Pearl).

But you can't put some quest ad it.
So it's going to look like the movie <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
because i made one that yo have to capture the interceptor but it doesn't work fine.

Still thanks <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

That is an interesting idea... a tweak on the Stormy Start, where you'd get a different random starting scenario each time: escape from jail*, or survive a shipwreck, or generally begin as an `apprentice-sailor`... in all these, you'd have to work your way up from nothing, no ship or anything. Heh, maybe start with just your fists...

(* The one jail escape in the game is so lame. For one thing, the guy automatically gets you out if your rep or whatever is high enough, you get no chance to refuse and try on your own... it's not even a proper escape. You should have to try and pick the lock or something -- you already have a prying knife for chests. Now, a real good video game jail escape -- see Metal Gear Solid.

Yeah, I like that, too.

Thanks, it would be great if you can make somthing like that but it takes time and it would be really difficult, does sombody knows how to do something, i'm still a little bit a beginer. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/keith.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":keith" border="0" alt="keith.gif" />

Might be easy enough to do, if you just want to craft a custom beginning to the game... and pick the main quest up from there. Suppose you want to start out as Jack in the Greenford prison, and from there escape and capture a ship, and then go to Redford and report on Oxbay's capture and get drummed into the service. Not a bad idea. You just change your starting location, and figure out a way you want to get out of prison. Once that's done you head to port and capture the ship (couldn't be as dramatic a way as in the movie... you'd probably have to be content with just fighting off a bunch of dudes). The main problem wouldn't be the coding but working out, for instance, how you want to be able to escape.

Kind of Stormy Start Xtreme ? Good idea! I actually enjoy the game only as long as I am the underdog. I'll tackle that, but only later this year when my current projects are hopefully complete.

Man, I've been thinking... imagine if the modding team charged for their downloads. B12 more than doubles the game's features, right? So how much you think they could really ask for it? Just a hypothetical... if this weren't free I prol'ly couldn't be into it.

If we would take money we could be sued for compensation for our bugs <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_eek.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="icon_eek.gif" /> Would probably be a moneyloosing business <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

No game company has so far being sued for bugs as far as I know. I wonder why not, though, considering games seem to be coming out with more and more bugs every year.

According to me, it would be worth to pay the full game price again, just to be able to play Build 12. Not that I ever paid the full game price, because when I bought it, the price had already lowered from €50 to €15. But I'm really thankful that Build 12 is completely free. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Before getting too exited about what the build is worth in terms of money keep in mind that we're taking all the material from Akella.

That's a point
But still it would be great <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/william.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":will" border="0" alt="william.gif" />

But what i don't understand is that: why didn't they make Pirates of the Caribbean just looking like the movie and add some movieclips to it. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hi.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":gday" border="0" alt="hi.gif" />

Because they were already working on Sea Dogs 2 and renamed it into Pirates of the Caribbean? A game with such an `open-ended` gameplay doesn't work too well if you have to follow a movie's storyline, I'd say, but I could, of course, be wrong there.

BTW: I'm certainly not saying there should be any money charged for Build 12. If you did have to pay, I doubt I would've liked to start modding myself, truth be told. I'm just saying that for the sheer amount of improvement, it would have been worth it.

Naw, that's the way the Russians work... they are the kings (tsars?) of illegal digital `file-sharing`. One of the most prominent MP3 sites is `Moscow-based`, and any Russian you could meet has tons of bootlegged movies and stuff on his laptop.

We'd just have to watch out for the mafia I guess. That and Disney lawyers, who are probably worse.

But nevermind the bugs... MicroSoft has shown people will pay top dollar for `fully-known`-`to-be`-`bug-riddled` software.

Disney decided too late that they wanted a game `tie-in` for PotC and so found an existing game in development to buy and change to PotC - but they all ran out of time - so the stock PotC is what we all got instead of Sea Dogs 2. Not nearly satisfying on EITHER account, unfortunately.

No kidding... SO many `un-implemented` game features that were originally intended.

Re: the movie itself, I dunno if Disney expected much of its success. For instance, there were NO action figures! Imagine how cool that would have been, a MacFarlane Jack Sparrow!

And something else I don't get, is why so many `movie-based` characters ended up intentionally not being made to look like movie characters. Why, for instance, was a Jack Sparrow model created (I assume that's where he came from, and wasn't `scratch-built`), but never implemented? For a `movie-based` game, the game has only a glancing connection to the movie. All in all it's kind of strange.
