My Brief Review of this game

Hi all, I am going to give a very brief review of this game.

First, let me tell you that I've never played the original version; so `would-be` buyers who want to listen to someone who never play the orginal you find the right person here.

I find the game very interesting, though not as good as those who have played the original thought it would be, yet still a very good game. And I am not even a pirate fan.

I'll get to all the negative aspects of the game and explain them a bit, for I believe all of you have heard enough good things from everyone else here.

Is the game repetitive? Yes! The game is most repetitive when it comes down to little details. You'll find yourself fencing in only 2 different background during ship battles. You'll find yourself fighting the same bad guy over and over again. The Atari didn't even bother to make randomized names. And every time you when the fight, you display the same victory dance over and over again. Well...these are the aspects of the game that we modern gamers feel the most awkward to, while original pirates players will be imagining that they still live in the 1980s.

The good news is that the game is definitely fun when you ignore the little details and instead look at the big picture. You have much freedom to do almost anything you want, in your own style. A little imagination is definitely required for you to ignore the repetitive details. Like when I am fighting the same bad guy over and over again I would think that he's just a freaking a$$hole who keeps reviving every time I throw him into the water; stuff like these will motivate you to hunt him down. And it's actually fun too.

The game is the most fun when you are thinking what to do next then thinking what kind of character you want to play. DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME LIKE AN RPG, because you'd need lots of imagination if you wanna do that. SIMPLY PLAY IT AS A GAME, then you'll find yourself enjoying everything.

I know I am making excuses for my 50 bucks, but wait until you try the game. The game will make you to make all kinds of excuses but you'll do it with enthusiasm. It's the game to play after a long day at work/school or whenever you are just tired. I have Rome: Total War and Halo, but after having 2 exams in school last night, I came home to play Pirates. And it's really fun.

good review....I agree....I play Rome: TW as well but after work or after training Pirates! is an easy game to just sit and chill with

That is the one problem on deciding on getting the game or not. Do you look at the big picture or little details? If you want perfection in the game and want all the small details correct, this game isn't for you. But if you remember, Sea Dogs and Pirates of the Caribbean are very similar in repetitive small details. In Sea Dogs, when you boarded a English ship, you always go the same guy, or at least one of the common English avater NPCs. But to enjoy this game, it takes a big picture to enjoy. Just think, when you are playing the game, you are dealing with the some of the same problems other pirate captains had. You have to keep a crew happy, paid, and fed. So did they! You have to avoid ships bigger than you and are against you. So did they! You have to collect a big fortune to win. The real pirate's way of winning was being rich in the end. The chance of getting rich is why anyone risked becoming a pirate, in all its difficulties.

Hey, for those who are upset with the small details, Sid Meiers seems to like expantion packs for projects important to him, and this is a important project. If he puts time into this game like he did Civilization 3, we will see a expantion pack that will improve the game.

Man Python, when you gonna spring for the game? You know you want to.... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

I am waiting for December 8th, when that contest they got out with the 3 prizes. I have three entries (I got my parents in on it) and if I win, I don't have to pay a thing! But if that doesn't happen, I'll go buy it on the next weekend probably.
