My game has died?

Jason

Playing build 14 alpha 4 and after getting a CTD I have tried to start the game 7 times in a row and it won't boot. I reinstalled alpha 4 and it still wouldn't boot. Any ideas?

The options file sometimes gets corrupted with a load of random gibberish on the last line, which stops the game from starting.
I saw this recently when I had the same problem; removing all that nonsense allowed the game to start properly. :shrug

Thanks Captain, but where is the options file located. I can't seem to find it unless it is in the interface folder. :keith

Not? It should be created when you start the game if it's not there! :shock

Do you have error logging enabled? Anything in the log files?

No and it looks some pieces of the game have gone missing. I am to uninstall and reinstall everything and see what happens after that.

Well I am completely baffled. I reinstalled everything, moved it out of my programs folder, put in a seperate folder and it crashes to Desktop everytime I try to start a new game. I wonder is something is going in my security settings. IN any case I am at a loss for what to do next. Maybe the universe is telling me to quit playing this game.

What about the log files? Check the FAQ if you don't remember how to turn them on:

If you are concerned about security settings you can check your DEP (Data Execution Prevention) by : Right click on (MY)Computer --> system protection, in system properties --> advanced--> performance--> settings--> data execution prevention. There, look for engine or engine.exe. If not here, click "add" and search your computer for it. This is for win7, but it is about the same for XP also. You could also click "turn on DEP for essential windows programs and services only".
