Me wants to ask somethin',Me has heard somethin' of bein' promoted when ye are in the navy,how do ye get promoted?

And tell who's navy ye did join!

Not 100% sure if you are running build 13... but stock/earlier builds you just did missions, sank ships, etc for the governor (or just sank enemy ships in general) and check every so often to see if you got a promotion (you check with the governor)

Whenever I join a navy, it's usually the Dutch navy, though I occasionally also play for the English.

To join a navy: Go to the governor and get a Letter of Marque. Once you have it, go sink ships enemy to that nation. Then return to talk to the governor again to see if you're promoted.

The nation ranks are different for each nation. They can be found in PROGRAM\NATIONS\nations_init.c.

May be someone could also do some new quest for a navy career like "join a group of ships to attack a enemy fort" or "sink tradeships near a specific enemy island" or "join our feet defending your fort when enemy is attacking or sighted neer our island"

That would be cool!

It enables you to marry the governor's daughter and you get land from which you get personal wealth every month, which again gives you stature in the archipelago.

I think it is possible, yes. Or it used to be. You get both ranks at once, but you are probably named after the latest rank you have acquired. I think. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

i just join the ones that are on my side. if i'm fed up with them, i join someone else. if i finish the main quest, i join the pirates.
