Need help with dds and tx files

Have used _tx_dds.exe file converter to get dds files from the tx files.

Have installed the latest Nvidia dds `plug-in` for Photo Shop.
I use Photo Shop CS
Have tried to make minor color changes to a ship skin.

Have saved the dds file and then repacked it to tx.

File always comes out half the size of original tx file and of course the model gets messed up! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pirate_plain.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p3" border="0" alt="pirate_plain.gif" />

There are many options in saving the dds files!

DXT1 (alpha) is the regular setting, and mipmaps are required. Edit with NO mipmaps, but when you save, you need to generate them. This thing still isn't working!

I get program errors, file format module interface errors, failure to open file, save to 0 Kb file which wipes out all data, etc.

I toyed around with character skins some time ago when I had Win ME and Photo Shop 7 and didn't have any of these problems.

Has anyone else had problems with dds files and Photo Shop CS or is this just my lot?

Because you get stuck with one tool i would suggest to take another one.

If Photoshop handles `tga-files`...

I got that tx to tga converter and it worked perfectly.

My Photo Shop CS, AKA ver 8 has no problem with tga files!

So with this I won't have to go back to Photo Shop 7 or dds files. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Cat, I started working on a less gaudy (but fancy enough to impress the ladies) version of the shooner/shnyava.

Will post it here soon.

By the way, is here someone who can use the maya plugin for `gm-files`?
I have tinkered those reilings at the deck of manowar1.gm, but i can't convert the `3ds-file` or `md3-file` to gm.

I would like to see if the texture fit and when i will tinker reilins on other manowars to.
 
No maya, but gmax whith `md3-exporter`. I had tryed to register at alias.com but there is no maya4.5. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

It is the shnyava which is based on the schooner hull but has Brig masts and sails.

It is fast, 15.6+ knots, and the pirate version which I use has 24 pounder guns! It was introduced in the 11.99 pre Build 12 version.
 
As far as I know, gmax can't export anything that you could get into the game. For using my tool you'd have to get it into 3DS Max and export as VRML.
As far as Maya is concerned, the plugins don't work with the PLE, you need the full version, and it has to be 4.5.

The Shnyava is from the A&M pack, btw.

You can use gmax to export to MDL, and then using an external utility (3D Exploration, perhaps?) to convert it to VRML.
 
I have gmax 1.2, but it only exports plasma (p3d) - whatever that is. And Deep Exploration seems to be available for free only in a `time-limited` version these days.

BTW, do you have any idea what formats XSI/EXP can import/export?
