Need help with dds and tx files

XSI/ESP? Nope. I don't even know what the latter is. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" />

For GMax, you need to download the Quake 3 gamepak (or whatever they call it), and then you can export to MDL.

Or you can use the MS Flight Sim one to export to X.

I'll upload 3D Exploration to the FTP; the _real_ 3DEx, the one that's not corrup--err, "corporationed" by Right Hemisphere.
EDIT: Uploaded, two versions actually (1.53 and 1.6something).

Don't worry Cat, you just need your daily rum injection. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

XSI/ESP has thomething to do with HL2? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
Gmax imports 3ds (the way how to get the model into) and exports md3.
Flightsim uses other formats then x so far as i know(CLD and mdl).
But 3D Exploration is very useful, because i was able to convert the `wrl-file` from Inez's tool to 3ds. The bad news is that 3D exploration only imports wrl.
Further i tryed to use crossroads, another free modelconverter but it seems that there are failures on parsing the files.
I think the way is to convert md3 to x and then to write my own x-> wrl converter. I hope that this isn't so difficult because the infos in both filetypes are much the same(verticecoordinates -> indices, texturecoordinates -> indices...).
Best would be if Inez could explain how is built the gmfile. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dev.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":d:" border="0" alt="dev.gif" />

Hmm. AFAIK 3D Exploration can read MD3/Mdl. Maybe that version is so old it doesn't?
XSI is Softimage XSI I believe, one of the highend 3D packages (like Maya). Dunno about ESP.

You can check the gmax forums, somebody probably has a tutorial on getting a usable file out of it...

MSFS does use its own proprietary gunk, but for some reason the steps are export X, then an _external_ proggie converts that to MDL (MSFS MDL, not Q2/HL MDL). So if you don't run the external program, you get to keep the X I think.

Yes of course! Maybe that i thought in german and it goes the wrong way in english.
I was meant that 3D Exploration imports wrl but no export of wrl is availble. My version of 3D Exp is 1.50000000 <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
Because the x file converter of 3D Exp works so fine, it isn't so pityful if the gamepack for flightsim not works. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

Ah, OK, I getcha.
Yeah, Crossroads I know does WRL--OK, geek moment.
Anyone remeber the old game/software/`neat-thingie` Flight Sim Toolkit?
It let you build your own flight sims, basically what would now just be considered a "very moddable game" was then a toolkit...
And it's where I learned 3D modeling. The only way to render, though, was:
*Make in FST.
*Use `command-line` util to convert the mesh to WRL
*Use crossroads to convert to `POV-Ray`
*Edit the file (`POV-Ray` format is plaintext)
*Render in `POV-Ray`.
*Growl when it didn't render right. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
{/geek moment}

Anyhow, I just sent you my VRML plug (3D Ex lets _me_ save in WRL for some reason...)--hope it helps.

Ahh! Thanks! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />
