ok i havn't bought the game yet, but i was seriously thinking about buying it.

so far it's in competition with HL2 and SW:BF

so far this is my number 1 chooice so i gotta ask

after looking at the screenshot and trailers i'm kinda worried that this may be more of a childrens' game rather then a teen game. So is it more for children or does it have more complicated realistic scenerios?

i played Pirates of the Carribean and greatly enjoyed the sea battles, so i was wondering if it was sort of like that when u can decide between several missions and quest and u can be a merchant, smuggler and of course a pirate (i hope it fixed the repetitiveness of the missions) or does it have a very linear mission where its more like go here then go there.?

and anyother information u guys can give me will be very much appreciated.

but seriously i have no idea wat i want to get.

Well, Pirates! is a "fun" game, so its not like POTC, the quests you get are rather basic, like escort a gov to a new island and your genertally free to do whatever you like.

So i dont know which one to vote for as all the games are different just depends how you feel at the time <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

ok i just semi tried the original pirates

so here are some question

do u actually get to walk around the city, or is it like in the original where u just click "go to governor" annd wat not?

are the sea battle's similar to POTC, more realistic or less realistic?

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->the quests you get are rather basic<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
so the quests in P are alot more complex?

is there more of a selection of quests?

now is there and actual end of the game, like when u find the super secret treasure the game ends, or is it almost like The Sims where there is no real end u just keep getting richer and richer and theres plenty to do

frankly i love hstorical games

and "Time" magazine put it on its top 10 games in its last issue (you know its gotta be good" <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

and i love RPG where u can choose the type of person u want to be and everything rather then following a set mission like Diablo.

Edit: also when u have ship to ship battles is it always 1 on 1 or can it be like POTC with more ships (i really liked the sea battles in that game)

No, there are several treasures. 9 I think. The game isn't over until you retire of your own free will, or when you're forced into retirement because of age and health.

You don't run around in town freely, like in the original you just choose where to go. Maybe we'll see a full `free-roaming` Pirates! once?

The quests are pretty basic, "govs daughter is kidnapped, go find her. Last seen in xxxx" and such. But the quests aren't binding. After you accept, you just do whatever you please. You can be on several quests at a time, because their not binding you in any way. I'm not even sure they're big enough to be called quests. The only real quest you're on is your life as a pirate, really.

The shipbattles can be fought `one-on`-one, or `one-on`-two. You'll always only have one ship to battle with. I must admit, it would be fun to have more.

But all in all, it's not really a game that's evolved into anything more complex than the original. But that wasn't the point either. Sid always meant to create a remake, not a sequel. Just like Pirates! Gold was a remake of the original. However, now that he's reintroduced the world of Pirates!, we can always hope he'll create a `full-blown` sequel.

Well it depends what type of game you are into. Pirates is good for its open endedness and strategy, whereas HL2 wowed me with its fancy graphics, perfect game pace and immersiveness. As for the graphics issue, it's one of the 'features' of the game, that everything is stylised, rather than a 100% accurate and realistic graphical representation (although those ships look pretty good).

its a shame u can't wonder around and c all the hustle and bustle, but i really want something besides FPS right now.

also wat about this whole modding thing wat is it trying to do?

will it be minor moddifications or toal conversions

and i especially the fact that there is no end to the game

so ya i think after careful consideration Pirates wins

Reasons: the last couple of games i have purchased have all been FPS and multiplayer based (BF 1942, UT2004 and so on)

i am really looking forward to trying something diffrent, guess i'm really into Pirates after playing the UT2004 mod "Air Bucanneers" (which is a must download for anyone who has UT:2004)

i hope to get down to EB Games tommorow and pick it. i hope they have it <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

but its a pretty popular game so i imagine they will

it would have been better if there was a Demo or something, to kinda get a feel for the gameplay, but wat can u do, since when did Atari ever care about wat the consumer wants.

my biggest worry is that this game would be more for children

I guess for peope who like FPSs, `Half-Life` 2 is probably the best choice. For me, who's hated every FPS I've ever played, it would be an obvious choice. Besides, I already LOVE the original, so I know what I'm getting into.

OOO

big question, this game works with Radeon 9200 right cause Rome Total War screwed me on that one (didn't buy it but it seems to support ever single ATI video card except mine, dirty bastards, even ones before mine work)
