New Progress Reload Image

<!--quoteo(post=233789:date=Jan 12 2008, 02:19 PM:name=PeterWillemoes)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(PeterWillemoes @ Jan 12 2008, 02:19 PM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Progress.tga.tx is placed in the PotC /Resources/Loading/ library. The angle is difficult to define, because it seems to rotate on more than 1 axis? Naa..think its just me..<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The original POTC progress.tga.tx does rotate along different axis and as it has porous shells, makes very extensive use of the alpha map to show air space between them.

I can't do anything that elaborate.
A spinning coin is where I'm going.

Looks more line 18 to me, that is for the skull one.
The original one looks like 11.25!

The smaller the angle, the smoother the animation, but at greater cost in time to do it.
Whatever angle I use has to be able to divide 360 into a whole number that is also a factor of 64.

PB, at least with that we know that the Slib folks couldn't find the code to change it either, so 64 images it is.

A spinning coin is exactly what I would want! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Either the SLiB folks couldn't find the code or they didn't bother to change it. Probably they didn't find it.

Thanks a lot for trying this, Petros! I think it'll look really cool when done. I'm fed up with that weird artifact. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

As the skull rotates 360 degrees over 24 pictures, 360/24=15. But thats with the skull.
I really cant be for certain, that the PotC ball is rotating one round over all its axes in 64 pictures, but it sure looks like it.

I noticed, Akella saved the Seadogs II logo as alternative loading screen image for PotC- nice one <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Yep, you're right, they used 15 degrees.

I wonder if this would be good though.

The last frame doesn't properly precede the first, so I would guess that it shows up as a glitch in the animation.

Then again, as the animation stutters as data is being loaded, perhaps it won't matter.

I'm going to check this one in game to see.

I´m sure it´ll be good, Petros <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I dont know if anybody is working on a loading screen, so <a href="http://www.oxhido.com/professional_work/waterhell.jpg" target="_blank">here</a> is what could be one?
Also, there are tons of images on this <a href="http://contest.3dluvr.com/archive.php" target="_blank">site</a> from a contest - just choose contest "#23 - "Of Ships and the Sea"

Testing that Slib Progress.tga, often it doesn't move as loading starts and then moves normally for only a short while.

I don't know if it is my computer, or just the old POTC directX8 code but with the skull loading screen, it never rotates more than 1 1/2 times anyway, and the entire file should show 2 1/2 rotations.

I guess then, it doesn't matter that the last frame doesn't exactly precede the first, as the entire Progress.tga.tx never get's played.

I've done some very quick testing with the SLiB mod progress.tga file as well and I did get it to play in full when starting a new game then going from my ship's deck to Oxbay. Indeed the transition when it restarts is not smooth <i>at all</i>. But most of the times you won't notice this, because it wouldn't play in full.

OK this is the second time I'm posting this, as I posted last night and today it is deleted!

I finished the icon using 32 frames and doubling them to 64.
(still better than SLib that only used 24)

Anyway, I can attach anything here ... yet.

PETROS! Nice seeing you again! We'd been missing you for those weeks on the temporary forum! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

You can upload it to the Files FTP; that should still work as fine as it ever did. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Thanks for working on this!!!

OK "Progress.tga.zip" is in my folder in ftp.

Check it out and see if it is OK with you or still needs some work.

I've tried it in my game now and it's really amazing! The changing lighting on the coin looks so much better thanks to you photographing an actual coin rather than rotating a 3D model. Originally I had imagined the coin to rotate vertically instead of horizontally. However, in the first PotC film, we see a cool shot of such a coin rotating horizontally, so having the rotation horizontal actually makes more sense. Nice job!
I do seem to observe the coin moving slightly to the left and right a bit, but it's hardly noticable and I don't think it requires more work.

Thanks very much, Petros! This will definitly help a lot in making Build 14 feel much more like a <i>real</i> Pirates of the Caribbean game! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

I'm glad to have helped!
Now it could also go into Build 13.5 right? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

I've tried it as well, and I like it - even if the other side of the coin looks a bit weird...
Good job Petros!

Build 13.5 will probably be the last Build version with the normal original main quest with the Black Pearl fight at the end with the artifact, so having the artifact progress reload image for Build 13.5 would still make sense. However, Build 14 should be a REAL Pirates of the Caribbean game, so here we really DO need that cursed coin. So I'm not sure if I should or shouldn't add your new reload image to Build 13.5.

I was thinking of making a moving gif, perhaps to use in my sig, but I can't post it here for now anyway.

I've seen that before. I don't think the film coins do have that on their other side though; I think they're identical on both sides. Perhaps we could replace the other side of the coin with the front instead?
