I try to use Notepad++ HEX Editor to edit the RN_Third_Rate.gm file in the build14 Alpha6 Update2 since there is an misspelling in it. Every time I try to correct the sentence I overwrite the existing data.

<b>RN_SOL_74g.tga</b> <--- this is the correct sentence

<b>lambert2SG.RN_SOL74.tga.lambert4SG</b> <--- this is the misspelling

If I try to correct the sentence with the HEX Editor it ends up like this

<b>lambert2SG.RN_SOL_74g.tgaambert4SG</b> <--- the editor do not insert the sentence it erase it as it go.

Can anyone help me with this?

With the HEX Editor you cannot insert or remove characters, only overwrite. What do you mean it's a misspelling though? That texture shows fine in my game version. I have it as "RN_SOL74.tga" though. I recall this was the ship that has the wrong model originally. There was one of the RN ships that had the model of the Lineship, but should've had the model of the Fearless (Warshio). I corrected that at some point; not sure if the fix is in Alpha 6 Update 2 though. I think it was. In any case: If you can't fix the GM file, fix the name of the texture. Just rename the texture to what the GM uses. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
 
Well I install the build's from stock up to Alpha8 and still no "RN_SOL74.tga" when I go to sea with the RN_Third_Rate, I see the hull as a gray scale and "RN_SOL74.tga" is no where to be found, got the "RN_SOL_74g.tga" texture but no "RN_SOL74.tga" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" /> When you get the time Pieter can you zip the one you got an share it with me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_confused.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="icon_confused.gif" /> For my Hornblower quest I decide to add the RN's ships from Alpha6, the quest will use those ship.

P.S: Is it possible to set the game so it's start in 1790 instead of the usual 1690?

Oh wait; I think I know what might be wrong. The original RN Third Rate used the Blackpearl (Lineship) model by accident, but should have used the Fearless (Warship) model instead. I fixed that, but had to rename the texture file because both models have different numbers of characters in the texture names. Simple solution to your problem: Rename "RN_SOL_74g.tga" to "RN_SOL74.tga" and the problem should be fixed. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

As for starting the game in a different year: In the next game version you will be able to select the gameplay period and you can also set the starting year of a main quest to whatever you like and you will get the appropriate era enabled then. In my game version I temporary set the Hornblower quest to start in 1793, the year the story of the first Hornblower novel takes place.

Of course in all game versions up to Build 14 Alpha 8 WIP 1 the starting year has NO influence whatsoever. Only in the upcoming Alpha 8 will the year have any influence at all with the different periods mod.

BTW: Did you ever read this post of <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?s=&showtopic=11380&view=findpost&p=240599" target="_blank">mine</a>? Pretty useful when you use Notepad++ as HEX-Editor. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
 
Yup everything is setup as you mention it in your post for NotePad++, saw your post a while ago and made the change right away. Thx for the help Pieter, as for the starting year, I just want to see if it's was possible, my quest will be for build13 and not build14 and up. Darth-me working on one for the builb14 and the way I see it it will be a choose able story line, as for me it's just a big side quest for build13. The reason I was asking for the starting time is just that I found it more appropriated for my quest to start in the proper era.

Side quests can also be added to Build 14. I would hate to not add your work to the next Build. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
