I've been thinking...
Usually one has a crew, that ranks up in time, up to sea dogs... what if once they reach this rank, by instance, Sailors, and if they take no casualties, or under an x %, after some navigation time for sailors, cannon shots for cannoneers and boardings won for soldiers, an officer arises from them, with a developed skill in some field related to the group he is in... sort of

"Captain, Beatus Kane, a sailor, has shown skills to occupy the officer place of a navigator"

giving you 3 options on what to do about it

appoint as officer
set as passenger
not intrested

Now, im not much of a coder, but...
navigation time, cannon shots made and boardings are tracked already, so is the rank of the crew, then code could be taken from there. Officer spawn exist for taverns, and all of those have a certain developed skill ("I'm the best fighter" or "They say i'm not a bad bosun" as example), and should be slightly restricted to match the skill to the group they come from...
As far as i can say, it could be done...

what u guys think ?
 
Do you mean like when you're on a ship, and travel to crew quarters, you can find a sailor with some specific skills from your crew, and then appoint him as an cannoneer, bosun or navigator?

Kind of, i was thinking more of an event trigger when conditions are met... maybe an officer telling you the news... but traveling to crew quarters seems good too... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />
 
I thinking about when the crew experience come to max
event will pop out at that time
but no navigator because sailor exp raising too fast if make navigator event we will get this event all the time after get through a storm <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

That's what i ment to avoid whit these conditions <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
 
Cool idea.

Crew exp gain is kinda fast though. Spend 5 minutes in a storm and you will have a full crew of SeaDog navigators.
