Old Build 10.1 vs 12

I probably already know what you are going to say... but I have to ask anyway. FIRST a bit of background. I had bought this game 2 years ago, and I played it using Build 10.1 At that time we had Windows ME. NOW, we have Windows XP home. I also remember playing and this game would CTD allot! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" /> I mean, it got to the point of saying to myself... IF I ever finish this game,I will never ever play it again. Well, I found it in my box of "old" games, and I "thought" that I would test it out again, now that I have XP. So, is XP more stable with POTC with CTD? PLUS; how much difference is there between build 10.1 and 12? I am not "into" changing things like uniforms... what type of weapon is more "realistic"... a TON of extra quests... and such the like. I ask this because I have Dialup and 70 MEGS for B12 is too much for me. UNLESS, if Build 12 is more "stable" and has really cut out CTD... then, I will try and find a way to download it. I was a "regular" poster way back on the PirateHideout forums, and now I see that site is gone.

OH BTW, I have an older Nvidia2 Ultra graphics card, and Yes, I know it is old, but it handled the game pretty good before... 768 RAM and Pentium 4.

Once, I remember I got stuck out in the ocean on the map, and I had to go Way back in my saves and replay a ton of game.... Hopefully, that won't be a problem.

Thanks for any help in this.

I have played Build 12.1 quite a lot and didn't encounter any game-crashing bugs at all. You might encounter some occasional weirdness, but even the stock game had that. I think Build 12.1 is very playable indeed and is WELL worth the effort of downloading it, even through dial-up. I also had dial-up when I downloaded it and I didn't regret it in the slightest.

We also have the Post Build 12 mods with a lot of great new features. Unfortunately, those work a lot less stable. If you want a stable game, stick to Build 12.1. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

BTW: Please note you do have to start a new game for this. A lot of stuff was improved and old savegames won't work. I'm sure you'll find it worth the effort though.

I remember the PirateHideout. That was the first site that introduced me to PotC mods. Build 10.1 was out at the moment, but it refused to work with my European version of the game. Build 11 did work though. Build 12 didn't use to work at first, but that's why I made the full download that does work.

Thank you Pieter! for the quick reply! I will make a trip to my brothers house, as he has DSL, so that will be nice. I can drive to his house, and be back home before I have 5 megs downloaded! Anyway, I will give 12.1 a try and hopefully it will not crash like it did before while using Windows ME and build 10.1. I would assume you know how frustrating that can be with certain games. You were lucky not to experience this in POTC. I really did like the game too. I am sure to be back with other questions! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
