I am sorry but I cannot attak neither settlement nor colonies!!! I tried every way!!! I am sure spanish colonies hate me <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" /> but I cannot attack them. Luckyly I could attack one but I cannot repeat <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> I also tried to shot colonies with my ship but there is no option for attack to town <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />

Please just put "attack option" for new patch

Keith, I ask a similar question, is this a bug? dare I say the word, I too have found it near impossible to attack towns no matter what I do. Now that makes two of us saying the same things.

By you simply replying with "you cannot attack towns" does that make it offical, I thought you could attack any town at will by either walking in or sailing in.

I get same issue as the other guy, no option for attack <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

I think we need to know what the problem is?

Ye probly don't have enough crew mate,not sure what the exact figure is but I've attacked towns with a crew of 200,if you have a sloop with 100 crew you wont get the attack option,with triple hammock upgrade you can hold more crew,fire a couple rounds at the fort,anchor yer ship,walk to the town and the attack option should open up it always works for me,hope that helps <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

book doesn't help in this case

Mate, true enough I have not sat down and read the whole book as I am an old pirates player from years back pages 53 to 62 good a fine job of explaining on land and such but nothing clear cut on how to intiat attacking a town. Please feel free to tell me otherwise, page number would be good but I suspect you wont find a page with those deails on it.

As for numbers I have had a crew from 40 through to 200 and in each case I sail or walk into town (any nation) and no option to attack town, sorry dude something is not right in game?

You as the pirate player should be able to attack any town you like, agree?

numpty01, I think you should fire at the fort for half a minute or so, an then just sail to the city. If they are hostile to you now, they will fire at you. As I understand it, you CAN NOT attack from the sea, if this is what you're trying. You have to land and attack from the land. I've done this with a crew of 140. Attacks from the sea have been taken out of the game. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":c" border="0" alt="mad.gif" />
 
You can initiate land battles by running your ship into the town. But if you have good relations with the country it will treat it as you are entering the city normally. How is it supposed to know you want to attack someone you are on friendly terms with? To let the game know, you have to fire a bunch of rounds at the city. If you have rank with that country or have otherwise been on good terms, it may take awhile for that city to consider you an enemy. Just keep firing until they fire back as was previously stated. Once the country as a whole considers you an enemy you will get the attack/sneak screen everytime.

You obviously never played the original Pirates! There, when you were about to enter a town, a menu appeared:

- Sail into harbor?
- Sneak into town?
- Attack town?
- Sail away?

Well done dude, that could be what is hapening to me, will start a new game and see how I do, yours seems like the logical answer to this, shame they removed the option to attack from the sea eh?

I agree, you have to lob cannon rounds on the town to get them to let you attack them.

If you have freindly relations with the, ie: Say you attack spanish and french, a french town might want to let you sail in to reward you, so you wont get the option to attack them, UNLESS you shower them with cannon fire on the main navagation map.

Thats my experence at least.

I always found it funny that you could SNEAK into town with a War Galleon and 300 men. The new sneaking version is more realistic, but unfortunately not as fun as the original version.

But anyway, if you want to attack friendly towns, land your boat close by, and walk into it with your men. If you do this, you'll ALWAYS get the option of attacking the town, friendly or not. Only times you can't attack the town are when your crew is too small to have any possible chance of winning (like 50 men against 300).

I gave up firing at the town a long time ago.

Well it would seem in the new game, that :-

1) you cannot attack the town by sea
2) you can attack the town ONLY by land and ONLY when you have a larger size crew than the town has Army defending it

You cannot attack a SETTLEMENT. I believe he was asking the original poster if he was trying to attack settlements or actual towns. I know there are various places where there is no Governor, only a Mayor. You cannot attack those places, at least I have not been able to.

Also, You CAN attack a town if you have less pirates than they have troops. I think what some people are getting confused about is, when you are allowed to INSTALL a governor. I believe this occurs when you WIN the land battle by an overwhelming margin. For example, I attack with 200 pirates, they defend with 300, but I slaughter them in the jungle and they break and flee. I believe you will then have the option to intall a governor...

Dude, from what people have been saying it is different to what you are now saying, aparently you cannot attack a town unless your crew out numbers the defending Army and you need to be hostile with them hence firing cannons at th town NOT SETTLEMENT, no one has even metioned settlement having said this would have been nice to be able to attack whom ever you felt like, razing city and installing your govenor.


This is getting long winded does anyone have anything in concrete as to why we cannnot attack towns?
