Today I make small mod which change ranking system in POTC Build Mod 13 from Navy/Aristocracy Mix to the Navy only.

Here is example of new ranks for England:
1 = Midshipman
2 = Sub-Lieutenant
3 = Lieutenant
4 = Corvette Captain
5 = Frigate Captain
6 = Captain
7 = Commodore
8 = Rear Admiral
9 = Vice Admiral
10 = Admiral
11 = Admiral of the Fleet
12 = First Lord of the Admiralty

And I put names of the Kings for all nations in game:
For England new text is: His Royal Majesty King George II
For France new text is: His Most Christian Majesty King Louis XVI

You can download if from Pirates Ahoy download section when it will pass authorization from site...

I would turn SUB-Lieutenant in 2nd Lieutenant (you have 1st, 2nd and 3rd lieutenants aboard a big ship)

I approved your file now; didn't know somebody even needed to approve files. Weird. I also moved it to "Assorted Files". "Stable Mods" is meant for "official" releases. I think perhaps I should disable uploads to "Stable Mods" and "Development Modpack Versions" to everyone except moderators and administrators or something like that.

This sounds nice. One problem though is that recently we added "presentation blades" when being promoted to Captain and Knight, so with your changes, that new mod would again be messed up. Perhaps we can do some brainstorming on what to use, what not to use and how to make both mods work together as good as possible for Build 14.

I'm afraid this is German, not Dutch.

Yes I use most German ranks for Netherlands with some Dutch words from original Build Mod ranks because I don't know true Netherlands navy ranks system and Dutch language have some similarities to the German language (at least me). Example: Germans tell/say Leutnant zur See - Dutch tell/say Luitenant ter zee

Pieter I agree all your changes with Dutch ranks, at last you best know how are is ranks system in Dutch Royal Navy.

And I think if you are dutch you can easily see the difference between Dutch and German. There are Americans who think Dutch and German are one and the same language but it is CERTAINLY NOT!

For problem with "presentation blades" I suggest this: transfer THIS AWARD FROM 8th RANK Knight/Rear Admiral TO 7th RANK Admiral/Commodore. When Captain in Royal Navy been promoted to Commodore it has been awarded with sword from King or Governor (Commodore Norrington in movie POTC: CoBP has received a Rapier Class Sword/Smallsword from Governor Weatherby Swann when it has been promoted to the Commodore) this can be historically untrue but I know that Higher Officers in RN have their "Ceremonials Swords" What you think about my suggestion?

what's with all the fancy letters? it's getting a bit confusing for me to read.

LOL @ Morgan.

Moving the presentation blade to Commodore is a good idea. I'll see if I can get that done. And I will have to change those Dutch rank names, because I will not stand for having German ones.

Sorry to interrupt and stray off the topic..but there used to be a rank called "Schoutbynacht" or something in the northern royal navies. Is this from Dutch? And what position is that, compared to, say admiral?

QUOTE
Schout-bij-nacht is a Dutch Naval rank, equivalent to Rear Admiral in the US Navy and Royal Navy. It is the second most junior Admiral position of the Dutch Navy, ranking above Commandeur (Commodore) and below a Vice Admiral (Vice-admiraal).

The rank of Schout-bij-nacht originated between the 15th and 16th century. Translated as Watch-at-night, the Schout-bij-Nacht was the officer who supervised the ship when the Captain was asleep.
It seems that originally in the time period of our game, Schout-bij-nacht was a rank BELOW captain, but nowadays it is the rank below Lieutenant-Admiral and Vice-Admiral. Strange.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_rank...rces#Officers_3 might also be of interest, though these are the modern day ranks, not the 16th/17th century ones.
