Its a difficult one - that new one from Maximus is a huge improvement on the previous one, readability wise. Its much clearer and easier on the eye. As PotC handles its dialogue/quests in text - i think that is an important consideration.

Still a clear(as in all characters are clear - quite important with the olde styles) 'Olde worlde' font would be a great find for sure - how does one go about importing font types into PotC? I've got quite a vast collection(a few hundred+) between my photoshop+illustrator programs, plenty of old-type ones also. If someone would tell me how to try them in PotC i could do some testing and report back?

If I can give you a suggestion: DON'T got messing with the fonts. It has taken us over a year before we finally got a new font that DOES display the European characters properly again. And that one had to be taken from AoP. We were using the Russian font before that. To make the font, you need to change a texture file in RESOURCE\Textures\FONTS and you need to change a LOT of values in RESOURCE\INI\fonts_euro.ini because you need to tell the program where each and every character starts in the font. That is not fun. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />

Well that sucks.. Olde worlde font would really set the game off; all kinds of period ambience there. Arr well, it were a nice thought... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Feel free to work on it. But don't expect it to be easy. BTW: The font on the worldmap that shows the island names has been changed and does look oldish. I don't think that font can be used for the ingame texts though.

Oh well - that does indeed sound stupidly ridiculous and tricky to do! lol why make it that difficult? I agree with Capn_Tucker that a nice olde world font would look great - but even with my quite large collection, i have to use certain other font styles(or custom make them) for certain letters, in particular capital letters. If i come across a nice readable aA-zZ one i'll let you know - maybe something worth messing around with for a future build?

At the momment the new one Maximus has given us is better than what we had, very easy on the eye and perfectly fine for the job at hand imo <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

In fact i know Hook mentioned a way to make it smaller - but well i kind of dont mind it as it is, not that smaller font is a bad thing most times.

Oh and while on the subject of text in the game - is there a way to make the log update text(top left of screen) stay a little longer on screen? sometimes its very easy to miss things like how many days have passed after loading cargo etc?

The pause key is your friend. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Hook

there is a pause key? I thought i had been looking for one - yeah that will do it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

on the font issue(well its hardly an issue...) i've found one that has a certain old world charm(in its curves), without being hard to read:

Bookman Old style - Itallic.

It seems to handle changes in point size quite well, remaining nice and legible, capitals also. heh, crazy ones like 'Elizabethan' while atmospheric are no good if you want people to be able read the text.

Hey, that sounds good, if you make a mod for it, I would definitely be interested. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Unfortunately you can't make the game simply use the font file for Bookman Old style, because the game doesn't use fonts that way. It uses it as texture files and, like I said above, you need to tell the game where each character starts in the texture file, which could be quite a bit of annoying work.

Somebody once found the value to change to make the log messages stay on-screen longer. But I don't recall who that was or what value he had to change. But one thing is sure: There IS a value somewhere that you can change to make the log messages last longer.

Until somebody finds that value, you can use the [P] key to pause your game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

Arrgh, more Russian programming deviltry! It would be so cool to be able to use a 17th century-style font in the game. Oh well... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Cause that was before your time, youngster <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" /> Here's Grandpa's post about it:

Thank you for that link CCC - i have started to use the pause key to read the log now, but a slight delay might be a nice option, though i can see the issues involved where you dont really want lots of info 'stacking up' onscreen at once, so it will be a tweak-balance test. If not then pause key works <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

LOL. I did see someone post it on the forum some time ago. But I don't think that was you; you are right that I was not yet around at the time of that posting. Shame to see that all those people have left now. Some of them I never even knew. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
