Question about Limited Edition `DVD-Rom`

onioneer

Landlubber
I'd love to `pre-order` this as I still have the original Pirates for the `C-64` gathering dust somewhere. But I was wondering will the game be playable in a `CD-Rom` dirve and extras availalbe in a DVD player or do I have to have a `DVD-Rom` drive to play the game?

If you will need the `DVD-Rom` to play the game alone can I suggest Atari spring for the extra .02 cents for a `CD-Rom` and go with a 2 disk set? I may still buy the LE but it ain't gonna do me much good.

Or am I out of touch and behind the times not having a `DVD-ROM` or burner? Since I don't pirate games or movies I never saw the point of a DVD burner in my home PC's.

Well you need a DVD Rom Drive if you want the LE. The LE is on a DVD and the normal edition is on CD ROMs.

I dont have a DVD burner yet either but ill gonna get one for the LE <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />.

I've already ordered the LE, with plans to buy a DVD drive sometime in November for exactly that reason.

So I have to ask - why is the LE on DVD? What enhancements will it bring? Better graphics? Faster loading? Multiple angles during the naughty scenes? What?

You still need to install the game on your harddrive.

Advantages :
- during installtion no change of discs :p
- the extras that are only on the LE like the making of, the original Pirates
- a cooler looking box :p

Well that`s it basically.

If your PC does not have a DVD drive, you might need a new one anyways for Pirates!, I suppose. I mean, they´re built in for years per default, aren´t they?

Aye,I'd be start'n tew see more new DVD games At EB shop so I'd be gett'n a DVD,thar only aboot $80.00 CDN, a lot cheaper dan whan dey first come out <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

I used to haev a DVD player in my PC but diteched it for a real DVD player.

Wow I'm gonna need a DVD player for all the other bloated Crap that has been coming and is in teh pipeline to come out in the next 6 months? woopdie doo.

Now, if they throw in a decent map it would be worth it.

I have a DVD player on my computer, love to watch DVD's on my nice `hi-res` monitor... You see SO MUCH MORE this way, than watching on a television... And you can do screen captures too! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Yep, Master and Commander looks GREAT on the monitor and just so so on the TV screen. I hope it makes as much difference with this game. I just hope a gamepad can be used with it. Swordfighting with a keyboard leaves much to be desired.

You can buy a `cd-rw`/`dvd-rom` combo for $30 now days. Check out newegg or your local store. If you want a `dvd-rw` it will cost more though.
