As a matter of fact, I received an e-mail from her today. I would suggest everyone would post his/her model/locator-related questions in one post and then I'll e-mail all our questions to her.

As suggested by Pieter, this post will try to collect every question related to this matter. So then, he will senda good chunk of questions to Inez Dias, creator of the TOOL.

So far what we dont know its:

- How to add lights to locators on ships? (1)
- How to add a parrot model to a locator on a character if you "equip" the parrot? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bird.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yoho" border="0" alt="bird.gif" />
- How to make a new walk file for the Lugger VML?
- How to create collision data for buildings? (2)
- How to add good looking COL files?
- How to (re)place bones on a character?

(1) <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/index.php?showtopic=7058" target="_blank">http://forum.piratesahoy.net/index.php?showtopic=7058</a>
(2) <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/index.php?showtopic=6772" target="_blank">http://forum.piratesahoy.net/index.php?showtopic=6772</a>
PS: Feel free to post also here your own questions

Inez sent some quick answers. I hope they are of some use:

<i>- Is it possible to add lights to light locators added to ships? These light don't need to emit light, they just need a light-like particle attached to them during nighttime.</i>
Not to my knowledge. The light in locations are made by the engine, AFAIK, you only have to supply a _l.gm model with the light locators. So I don't think you can do that for ships.

<i>- Is it possible to make a 3D model show on a predefined locator by equipping an item? We want to add an "equippable" parrot who will say something funny every now and then. </i>
Not a bad idea to equip it to a locator; I assume if you give it to the character as a blade or pistol and then change the corresponding locator's position on the character, it would indeed be equipped. However I don't think you can make an additional locator for that, you'd have to use the existing gun or pistol locators and move them to a different position, because the engine knows only about those.

<i>- How can you make a new walk file for a ship? We have a new ship from the SLiB mod, the Lugger VML, but we don't have the walk file, so now the crew is walking through the deck.</i>
The tool has a menu item for it. However even with that it's not easy and much work.
There's also a different tool made by Schffnow, and a tutorial how to use it in the Wiki.

<i>- How to create collision data for buildings?</i>
You have to make a .ptc character patch file. No way known to me to do it dynamically (that is, for CCC's town building kit).

<i>- How to add COL files?</i>
The tool can make very simple ones that have just a single color. For anything better you'd need to do vertex coloring in a modeler, but I have no idea how to export that into a .col file (a .col file just holds the color values for all verts in the model.)

<i>- How to (re)place bones on a character?</i>
The bones aren't in the character, but in the .an file. The character files only have for each point the numbers of two bones that influence the point, plus a weight to interpolate between those two bones.
The tool display all these values but won't let you edit them. It would be possible to export them all into a text (or Xml) file, manipulate that in notepad and reimport, but honestly I currently don't have the time for that. If anyone volunteers I'm however willing to give you the source code to the tool.

Did anyone catch this at all? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

I dont think Inez understood the first question, hes talking about lights in locations but were not, were talking about lights that are perhaps just a particle system.

She tells how it works for locations, so if we want to add lights the same way as to locations, it probably won't work. So either we have to figure out another way or we won't manage it at all.

i was never considering light as in locations, i was thinknig simple particle flares that are on, shure they wont light up the hull but they will make a ship visible in the dark

Since my knowledge on this subject is limited, i need to be shure:
After i import the VRML file <i>into 3dstudiomax</i> (ex. a 'mixed character'),
Can i modify the places of the bones (or the points) <i>in 3dstudiomax</i>?

Im sorry, but cant offer to upgrade the TOOL since i dont know the knwoledge to do anything with a source code...
