After playing for about 20 min, everytime at the start of a battle against another captain the system reboots without any Bluescreen or error message. (already disabled automatic restart)

tried already everything: New Windows Installation, nearly all ATI Drivers, the newest Omega Drivers, changing nearly all graphical settings.

Someone has a solution or a hint what else i can do?

AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 2,0 GHz
512 DDR Ram
ATI Radeon 9600 XT from ASUS
MSI KT4 Ultra 6590 Mainboard
Win2000 SP4

no Problems with directX9c

I guess wait for the patch like the rest of us ATi owners.

I know this sounds crazy, but mine crashes in a fight scene whenever I use the Rapier sword?

So dose mine i figured this was a fighting bug,so it will be ok if i use any other sword other than the rapier until the patch comes out?

Just checked the other weapons and it still crashes, this is a game stopper and ruins my experience totally.

Try using Radlinker to lower your Core and Memory speeds. This has stopped the crashing for me.

I noticed that everytime there was a crash the VPU protector was kicking in and reseting the display unit. Something in Pirates! was giving a sudden burst of heat to the chip (this could be incorrect textures/TnL related loading during a particular sequence, i.e. the fight scene).

Radlinker is included with the Omega drivers, or you can download it independently of Omega.

Now it seems to work.

Just reinstalled the newest ATI Drivers (instead of the Omegas) and set AGP Speed to 4x and FastWrite OFF. (worked with another game too)

Aaaargh !

I have the same problem - reboot crash atfter selecting the weapon before the swordfight starts. This happens aprox. every 10th swordfight. It also happens very rarely if my opponent falls into the fire on deck.
I tried all your tips but nothing seems to hellp.
Lower core and memory Speed.
Turning Fastwrite off.
Reducing AGP Speed to 4x.
Omega and `ATI-Drivers` make no difference.

I hope Firaxis are hurring up with a patch, cause it´s a nice game.

I forgot to mention: I have a Radeon 9600 Pro and `Via-AC`´97 onboard sound, both with uptodate drivers.

Ok, i was wrong when i said it was working, because it worked only once when i was able to play over 1 hour with no crashes, but I found another fix that worked for me.

I have an ASUS card and downloaded the ASAS Smart Doctor. With this tool you can enable an Overheat Protection, which seems to fix the crashes during battles.

Perhaps there is a tool like this from your card manufacturer too.
Hope that helps.

OK - I´m not a hardware developer, but i seems unlogical to me, that a problem concerning with overheating etc. happens allways at the same scene of the game. If it´s a overheating thing, it should happend, when a certain temperature is reached and that should be (btw. with "underclocking" or even "not overclocking" it shouldn´t happen at all) randomly. I think it´s a bug which has to be corrected by a patch or there are some hardware features which maybee could be turned off to avoid this crash - but I had no luck so far,

use Cat. 4.10 and the game will work without any crashes or reboots!!!

THX Soveso , you are great - i rolled back my drivers to 4.10 and now there is no problem anymore.
