reinitalise

fudge dragon

Landlubber
Storm Modder
I know that pushing "I" in build mod reinitalises BUT i dont want build mod it gives you too much stuff

How is this reinitalise thing done? because it would be useful when sorting out my drydock mod's dialog proplems (see my other post)

Or is it top secret?

Tis a good question. Re-initialise was put in for testing mods, and if they didnt work, the I key would stop the mod from screwing up the modder's computer. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/modding.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":modding" border="0" alt="modding.gif" />
I dont know how, but Im guessing that they used some sort of code extract in the key functions file, after building the re initialise itself.

I found a file in build mod called reinit i also found references in controls/init_pc.c
and seadogs.c

could these be it? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bookish.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":mm" border="0" alt="bookish.gif" />

<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/beer2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":beer" border="0" alt="beer2.gif" />

only proplem is the files they reinit are build mod

i wonder if its possible to change that? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/glare.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":glare:" border="0" alt="glare.gif" />

With a fair bit of elbow grease and know-how of what your doing to the game, Id say that you could! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Heh, and me. You'll have to get someone like NathanKell to do that. He seems to be one of the few people who actually knows what he's doing.

The reinit resets everything in the game to it's default. (Not your char tho) That means that the crew replenishes in an instant, and wheat and rum magically appears in the store, stuff like that. It's a bit of a cheat, but it is needed, as some mods would require a new game without reinitialising. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />

The reinit mod itself is in HellAngel's AllMods pack as a *.potc, i.e. something to install onto stock POTC by code find/replace, not by overwriting files.
I don't now recall what prerequisites it then had, nor do I think (from my current point of view) it worked too well--I did some really stupid stuff back then <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />--but it's what you're looking for.

Note that unless you install the various Pre-Req for Adding X mods, reinit will only be able to change existing things' stats, _not_ add new things to a game in progress.

Knows what I'm doing? Hah. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> But thankee. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I simply have a better flashlight for poking around in the dark and dismal depths of code than I used to. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

That's most of the time. Sometimes, during lucky times, I do manage to do something that makes it seem as if I do know what I'm doing. But don't be fooled. I really don't! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

None of us know what were doing! were all poking weird scripts hoping for the best! (well, I did that and screwed up PotC many a time)

Talking about "sounding familiar"! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

Check the sticky called PA Public FTP.
<a href="ftp://files@piratesahoy.net:piratesahoy@ftp.piratesahoy.net" target="_blank">ftp://files@piratesahoy.net:piratesahoy@ftp.piratesahoy.net</a> is the shortcut.

That doesn't work for me, Nathan... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> I do it the old fashioned way: <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/diomed.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dio" border="0" alt="diomed.gif" />

<b>Go to</b> ftp:\\ftp.piratesahoy.net
<b>Use</b> files@piratesahoy.net <b>as your username</b>
<b>And</b> piratesahoy <b>as your password</b>.

That should work well, its the only way I can get on the FTP too. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />
