Remember my Fred Bob Quest? Well...

CatalinaThePirate

Unholy Terror,
Storm Modder
Ahoy mateys...

I have been so busy with testing the new build - now that it is released (YEA!), I wanted to take some time to work on my FB quest (GP, don't kill me, I'll get to the ship soon).

Here is a small synopsis for those who do not know I am doing this - Fred Bob, our Shrimpin' Fool, asked me if I could try to get a Sea Dogs character, Maurikio, into PotC. So after some trials, it worked out - and I got him into the game as a hireable quest officer.

Scenario: FB the bosun is being held on FdF for threatening to mutiny. The officer who ordered him arrested is the only one who thinks FB actually DID this - everyone else KNOWS he's innocent - but since the accusing officer has deep political connections, FB is in the stockade.

(there is no stockade on FdF, so I have him on "parole walk" on the second beach)

Nathaniel finds out about FB and gets him released. FB in his gratitude, gives N a letter he is carrying that says on the envelope that a reward will be given to the person who delivers the letter to a lady on IM.

Here is Fred Bob the bosun, and Doña Estrella de Alençar, the wife of the IM governor:

I created her from several different character skins... Pretty lady, hm?

So she is the recipient of the letter - N brings it to her and finds out that she is exchanging letters with a PIRATE, who is also her lover! (shocking!) This pirate is a former Chevalier of France, Armand Delacroix, and here he is - with a comparison pic of the model I altered to get my pirate:

You see he still wears some of his old uniform.

And I have made it so he is a "`no-quarter`-given" type of pirate, who sails in my "Voodoo Queen" MOW:

NO she is NOT available yet!!! (sorry!)

Fred Bob himself is working on FB's dialog so it is properly salty and fits the character. I am looking forward to seeing that in the game, as it will make FB the Bosun a truly unusual `quest-hired` officer. OH, and another feature of his character is that once FB is hired, he will have all the dialogs a regular `tavern-hired` officer will have (change clothes, hoist a different flag, &tc).

I've not quite worked out the rest of the quest yet, but it will come. Just wanted to give you an update... :cheers

Yep it will be great to hire FB as an officer aboard me ship.... :cheers

< Fred Bob be goin' below an' rummagin' 'round in de hold a lookin' fer dat typewriter thingy he be pickin' up from a flea market 3 or 4 year ago! :cheers >

hey cat, this character WILL be named after the great and infamous and (my favorite :cheers ) pirate in piratesahoy, Fred bob right? not Mauriko? 8)

Yep, the character is "Fred Bob", not Maurikio. And he's a pretty good bosun, too! 8) :cheers

FB also gave me a great "Maurikio" soundbyte from SeaDogs that I have incorporated into the game. Heh... Everytime you talk to him, he says, "Wat choo wan', boy?" :cheers

xD: mateys! Here's a small update to what's going on with this quest:

The rest of the quest (hopefully) will go like this...

Nathaniel takes the letter that FB has given him to Estrella on IM. She is grateful and gives him a reward, then asks him how he came by the letter. He tells her FB got it off of a dead pirate - and E goes all to pieces crying because she thinks A could be dead. She begs N to go find out if A is still alive, so N sails off to QB. (ya with me? GOOD!)

Okay, so on QB, N meets with A, who is in the tavern swimming in a keg of rum... He is trying to figure out a way to steal E off of IM, so they can escape to somewhere else and live in peace... While he has a MOW, he cannot fight off the entire Spanish navy, so he is stumped as to what to do next.

Enter N, who sits to have a drink (or two or three or four) with A - and eventually A realizes that not only is N a captain but he has his own ship! (DUH) (well, the rum, mind ye) So he begs N to help him steal E off of IM - and N has a choice, either he can say yes, or no... Well... The adventurer in all of us would say yes, there's going to be some danger involved, but heck, all in the name of "saving the beautiful Mademoiselle Estrella"...

(yes, she's married to the IM gov, but it was an arranged marriage, and she is an "ornament", not a true wife to the man, thus she is unhappy and WANTS OUT)

So... A suggests that N go to IM and prepare E for a night jaunt across the island to a secluded beach where A can slip in past the naval patrols and quickly pick her up for their escape. N suggests a disguise...

Here is the disguise... Ya wouldn't think this was a lovely young senorita, now would you?

animistse.jpg

You might recognize that I took her disguise from an Animist - just made the cloak/robe dark blue... (nice for the dark)... Gave her some gloves to hide her female hands... That *is* her face in there under the hood.

Remember crossing Isla Muelle to the "secluded beach"? The bridge??? Heh... N has to take E that way, and of course defend her against the badguys along the way... She may even use that sword N hung on her as part of the disguise. Heh...

Should be fun. :cheers

Now the kicker to this is that when A and E (hmmm, sounds familiar) escape, they plan to go to another archipelago - and this will be the Expansion Archipelago - so there is a possibility that I (or someone else) might like to pick up these characters for a continuing quest - maybe Armand and Nathaniel join forces to find some wonderous treasure or something... ???

Anyhoo... That's the update, hope you enjoy! :cheeky

I am working hard to get this ready but there are SO MANY THINGS left to do to get it all working right! I *have* been running FB around - as an officer, he's got pretty good melee stats and a Bosun's Choice blade, so he's truly a big help in a fight. I'd pop up some files for you to play with, but things are not quite right yet, so you'll have to wait... :facepalm

Aye Catalina, look'n better all de time,Look'n forward tew paly'n dis quest fer sure, nice werk on the disguise :cheers xD:

Aw shucks... :cheeky: Thanks, guys... I'm actually doing this when I should be working on "real life" stuff. I'm practicing work avoidance. Practice makes perfect, y'know! xD: xD:

I just love the skins. You have made the only "Officer" skin I would really use =). I'm not into most of the naval officer looks myself...but him, he's cool. The quest sounds like alot of fun and can hardly wait for it.

Ah, thanks, Kieron... and others...

Izzie, you really like Armand? I thought he came out rather well (took away the frilly French lace at the collar and cuffs, ha!), only I am not really happy with what happens with his sleeves (which are built on the French Captain model who has full uniform sleeves) when he bends his arms... BUT unless someone figures out how to actually import new character models into the game, well, we're stuck with existing ones.

I love Armand's hat and feather - I made the feather black instead of the original white/orangey red color, and tried to blend it with the hat - it came out interestingly with a tinge of white around the edges of the black, very stylish, I thought. :eek:ops

I changed Estrella's underskirt to blue but am thinking of changing it back to gold again. The original model skin skirt was gold too and I didn't want to seem too similar - but actually nothing really looks quite right except the gold... I DID change it a bit by putting in the "lacy" front, which I think came out nicely, and the sleeves and bodice front are different than from the other red/gold dress, so I suppose that's okay...

I'm having some coding trouble on this - sheesh, I'm amazed I can do this at all, considering I don't really know whatintheheck I'm doing! :yes

But anyways, I have two different scenarios worked out for when N and A meet in the QC tavern - A is already sitting and N sits to join him for a drink - they drink and talk until the wee hours of the morning, and then N leaves to go back to report to E that A is still alive - and tell her of their plan to help her escape.

N can just "stand up" and leave A behind in the tavern (success!), but I really liked the idea that part of the conversation should be outside on the path to the QC port, two drunken sailors taking a walk in the middle of the night...

So I set that up too, a fade and warp to the path at 4AM - but I can't seem to get Armand to STAND UP. I have commands for N to stand, and he does, but Armand warps seated... It would be great if he was sitting on a BARREL, but no, he's just crouched in mid air waving his arms (which might be funny except that it just doesn't work for the story!). Have tried many different things, but nothing seems to work. :p:

The other thing - which I am working on now - is getting the disguised E to meet Nathaniel... Have just started, so any failed attempts are not as disappointing as the problem with A... Her new character will not appear where I want her... BUT I am working on that - I'm sure I'll get it, I just have to stare at the code a little harder. xD:

BUT for the first problem, I can't seem to get any of the "real" coders (i.e., not me!) to answer me on that over in the PMT (been like a ghost town over there, I think they're all on vacation together, LOL!) boards...

Anybody here have any suggestions on how to get A to stand up? The code for getting N to stand works but not for A... :cry
