Ahoy, maties! I just installed both Pirates of the Caribbean and Build 12, no other mods. When I attempt to run the game, an error message reads, "Runtime Error!" The file I was attempting to open, ENGINE.exe, is listed, then it says, "abnormal program termination." What could it beee!?
 
What version of POTC do you have? Did you buy it in the US, or is it a localized (AKA European) version?

You can check by the size of Engine.exe; if it's 1.13MB it's US, if it's larger (~1.99 or so) it's Euro.

Either way, open engine.ini and find this line:

Change the 1 to 0 and try again, then email me the three log files (error.log, system.log, and compile.log) that are generated.
 
It's a U.S. version. I did what you said and got the logs. But it doesn't create a "Compile.log." for some reason. I'll send you the other two, though. Thanks alot, man.

Just sorry it's not working right for ya. :

Compile.log is only created if and when a trace() call is encountered. If it didn't get far enough into loading the game to have hit one, you won't get that log.
 
I have the same problem Nathan. I am playing with Build 12 and got to Greenford and couldn't find the Professor. I downloaded the updates and now I have the Runtime Error. What can I do?
 
Please redownload and rerun the updater. If you still get the error, email me the error logs and the file programweatherwhrsea.c
 
<b>Cyberops, </b>if you are running Build 12, you can get an update through your installer that will hopefully fix this trouble.

Just start the installer again, and it will take you through the steps - check UPDATE, and you should be fine. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
 
When did you do this? The updater has JUST been updated, so you may not have the most current files. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/onya.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="onya.gif" />
 
i have `re-downloaded` and updated again as specified (i think), and it has not done me any good either. after setting the line to 0 in the engine file like NK said, it says there is a problem with 'weatherWhrSea.c; line: 58' in the error file.

Hey I just installed the new build 12 update and now I have the same problem. My build 12 was working fine before the update despite my shipyard ctd. I am running the North American version. Perhaps some of those files were meant for the Euro version?? Anyways here are my logs:

I tried a few more times but no luck still keep getting the runtime error and im using the european version. So until you are sure it's working im gonan wait installing it.
 
I think that the problem is that the weatherWhrSea.c file needs line 58 commented out. It has been changed from the previous release of Build12.

If I do that it seems to work and I managed to start a new game.

OK, please everyone try it again. I think I've found it.

Sirus: Yup, that's it. The problem is, that's _exactly_ what's on the server, it just wasn't being downloaded correctly. I think the problem was some extra whitespace in the INI control file for the updater. Since doing that, it's working now (at least for me).
