Sailor Music

As I was sailing away from Redmond it occured to me. My sailors don't sing. I think it would be neat if, on the sea when you're in first person mode on your ship, you could hear your sailors singing sailing songs. I have some music files with songs like "A Pirates Life" "Forty Fathoms Deep: The Legend of Davy Jones" "Shiver My Timbers" "Yo Ho, Ho! (And a Bottle of Rum" "Sailing for Adventure" "Blow the Man Down" "The Pirate King" "Pirates of the Black Tide" "A Whale of a Tale" "A pirates Life For Me (long version". If anyone is interested in making a mod like this, I can send them to you.

In order to avoid accusations of file-sharing I can only share with a few of you, so don't ask for them if you aren't serious about using them in a mod.

That would be cool!!!

LOL, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> that reminds me of that M&M commercial:

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" /> I'd like to Know....

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" /> If you got the Notion.....

<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" /> To Rock the Boat <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> Dont rock the Boat Over, Rock the Boat, Dont tip the Boat Over <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" /> YeeHeeHee...... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/w00t.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":woot" border="0" alt="w00t.gif" />

Anyway my sailors would sing that!!! or Row, Row, Row your Boat. (works better if your Ship has Oars, and if you've seen the add.)

That's funny. Althought the real version is more 70's disco music. Row your boat might be cute, but it would need more music cause that one little tune would get real annoying really fast! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

Yeah, its better to have variety. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I like the salors singing in Sid Miers Pirates, but they only sing one song and that gets old pretty fast. It might even be cool to have the sailors sing on the world map and when youre sailing into port. I dont know if I would let them sing during battles though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />

If done right we could make it only play during sailing time. Once you engage in battle, the battle music would start. Most of the songs I mentioned above sound like sailor songs, are the rest are pretty cool anyway. They all have a pirate theme. If someone could tell me how to convet the audio files into the format PotC uses, then all we'd need is a scripter who can tell the game to play all of them instead of just the one.

Any scripter out there interested, let me know.

I dont know anything about scripting, <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" /> but I'll keep my ears open to see if any other songs would sound good in the game. It would be cool if we could find a drumroll to beat to quaters when the battle starts. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sailr.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":sail" border="0" alt="sailr.gif" />

I also have the original soudtrack to "Master and Commander" which has a lot of drum driven music. But I think some used M&C:TFSotW in another mod. Not sure.

i remember that some M&C music has been colected and turned into a replacement music pack to go in the place of the stock music for the game. the battle music is often drum driven, most likely to mimic battle music historically...
i'm thinking of having these songs going as well as the game music, for example, at a much lower volume that the main music, and can be heard when the game moral is high, or anything above normal...
unfortunately, i dont know anything about coding [dont know much about anything technical on a PC. i know how to go online, and play games, and fiddle with simple options and txt files, but nothing involving coding...], so i cant make it.

i have a pirate's life for me for ya! and a rather silly but funny song from cutthroat island. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" /> Which is in the music pack) i could convert them for you. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> so that's one job assigned. just put the files on the FTP server.

A silly song from Cutthroat Island??? There are no songs in Cutthroat Island and certainly no silly ones. Which track are you talking about??? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />

'a pirate i was meant to be' i thought it was from the movie. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> and boy, is it silly. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

you can download the FTP server from pieter's site. just open it, open the FTP server, choose the files you want to put on it in the left column, press the arrow to the right, and wait while the program uploads the files. this can take a long while. i'll download them, convert them, and put them back on the FTP server.

That definitly has nothing to do with Cutthroat Island. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/no.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":no" border="0" alt="no.gif" />

it's in the music pack from the film! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" /> what the heck is it doing there then?

Done. It's in a file called "Pirate Music". I know...so original. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_mrgreen1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheeky" border="0" alt="icon_mrgreen1.gif" />

i'll give ye a sign when it be done. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" /> oh no, i be in me pirate mood! run! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Don't ask me: I didn't make that music pack. I suppose the person who made that music pack added it in for fun. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

I apologize for creating a little confusion. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whistling.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wp" border="0" alt="whistling.gif" />
It's correct. I've added a funny little song from "Curse of Monkey Island" to the "Cutthroat Island Music Pack". It is used in the tavern and it's called "The Pirate I was meant to be"sung by Guybrush Threepwood and the Singing Pirates..
But in the music pack should be a little ReadMe file, where I specify the different music tracks I put in. There are one additonal music track from "Master and Commander" used in the Governors House and another track used in the Church.

the song 'the pirate king' doesn't work. it has no size either. it's basically a shortcut. the rest is fine. i'll upload them soon.

EDIT: i've converted them, and i'm going to put a pirate i was meant to be in there as well, both in WMA and OGG.

uploading. warning: the files are likely to be quite soft, or at least a lot softer than before. however, i know from experience that they are not that soft that you should keep adjusting the sound level all the time. but as i'm using a different program now, it might be different. if there is no difference. please tell me. it's important that i know.

ok, something went wrong, so i'll have to upload again. i think it was to big. i'll split it up into to seperate parts.

done! come an' get it ya club o' tuneful rovers! the second part is inside the folder of the first.

I've just downloaded the songs and the volume sounds ok.

But in my opinion there are to many instruments in the songs. I think it sound not right for sailors who work hard on a sailship and have no hands free to play instruments. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="icon_wink.gif" />

If you want to change the music, convert your music files into .ogg format and copy them into Pirates of the Caribbean\Resource\Sound\Music folder. Then open up the Resource\INI\Aliases folder and double click the music_alias.ini
Look out for the "Spokplavanie" entry and insert the path of your music files. The Spokplavanie section is for the sailing music. But there are no differences in the music between third person and first person sailing. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

The changes have no effect on the sea battle music so your men wouldn't sing when there go to battle. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

When you finished it should look like this:
<!--c1--><div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><!--ec1-->;============= SPOKPLAVANIE =======================

[music_spokplavanie]
name = MUSIC\The Pirate I was meant to be.ogg
name = MUSIC\15 Men Dead Men Chest Shanty.ogg
name = MUSIC\YoHo_With_Vocals.ogg<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

It is highly recommend that you add several music files. Otherwise you hear the same song over and over again when you're in sailing mode. The songs should play randomly in the game.
